Walemania continues its annual tradition of hosting the largest wrestling party during Wrestlemania this year at the Franklin Music Hall in Philadelphia.
Founded by Grammy-nominated rapper/actor/poet Wale and hosted by The Ringer’s Kazeem Famuyide, Walemania is the most electrifying celebration that brings fans and athletes together.
After a live episode of The Masked Man Show, the night includes special performances and surprise guests. Every year, the show dedicates a segment to their guest of honor.
The Guest Of Honor At This Walemania
This year’s “Guest of Honor” is 20-year veteran Shelton Benjamin. A former collegiate wrestling champion, he came from the same 2002 OVW (Ohio Valley Wrestling) developmental class as Randy Orton, Batista, and John Cena. Shelton’s career included stints in New Japan Pro Wrestling and winning championships in WWE and Ring of Honor numerous times.
Shelton Benjamin is famous for his pure athleticism. He would run full speed on leaning ladders to tackle wrestlers or fly in the sky to land on multiple wrestlers. Benjamin is most famous in WWE for being a three-time WWE Intercontinental Champion. His first reign lasted 244 days and was the longest single Intercontinental title reign this century until Gunther broke it in 2023. Shelton is also a three-time tag team champion and 24/7 champion under WWE. He won their United States Championship twice during his tenure with the company.
Shelton has also twice won the ROH tag titles with familiar tag partner Charlie Haas. Shelton has also traveled from one indie wrestling circuit to another and even spent time wrestling in Japan. He was also an NCAA All-American in 1997 and 1998 at the University of Minnesota and was on the same wrestling team as fellow future WWE superstar Brock Lesnar.
