Sheffield United might be at the very bottom of the Premier League table this year, but you wouldn’t guess it. The Blades are fighting to stay out of relegation with just seven games left in the season. However, their last two performances on the pitch have shown they are a team full of fight and grit. A last-minute — actually, stoppage time — goal saw Sheffield United earn a point against a mid-table Chelsea FC.

Although Chelsea FC are currently fighting to maintain a mid-table spot, their performances are lackluster and uninspiring. Despite last week showing the skill and tenacity of Cole Palmer, a young midfielder, the lack of cohesiveness and intensity has hurt the team this year. The manager struggles to inspire the squad, showing in their dropped points and poor form compared to previous years.
In comparison, Sheffield United are having a resurgence at the end of their 2023-2024 season. Even though they are at the bottom of the table, their energy and continual fight has made fans wonder if they can survive the Premier League this year. If they don’t start winning games or earning points, they’ll drop down to the Championship.
All in all, the energetic and exciting performance of Sheffield United should have earned them the three points in our book. The tenacity was summed up perfectly by Oli McBurnie with his extra-time goal to help the Blades earn a much-deserved point at Bramall Lane.
On the other hand, Chelsea FC started strong and then became complacent as the match went on. Thiago Silva headed home a well-placed corner from Conor Gallagher. Despite the early lead, the Blues couldn’t hold on to their small lead for very long.
Chelsea keeper between the sticks, Djordje Petrovic, made a costly error that led to a Sheffield United goal just a few minutes later. The battle was tense for the entire match, ending with a McBurnie strike in the 93rd minute to give Sheffield United and Chelsea FC one point each.
What Happens to Chelsea and Sheffield United Now?
Fans are left wondering the fate of Chelsea FC in the Premier League and Europa League for next year. They need to win, or draw and put themselves in a position where they can be in fighting contention. Chelsea need to beat out other mid-table teams like Manchester United and West Ham.
On the other hand, Sheffield United desperately needs points from the last seven games. They could have won the game against Chelsea FC but missed a few key opportunities. Scoring goals is a must-do for the struggling Blades side.
