Alabama cornerback Kool-Aid McKinstry is one of the top cornerback prospects in the 2024 NFL Draft. He was set to do some drills at the NFL Combine, but that has been put on hold. During his medical evaluation, it was discovered he has a Jones fracture in his foot that will require surgery.
Kool-Aid McKinstry Has a Foot Fracture
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported the injury was discovered during the medical evaluations at the NFL Combine. Specifically, it is a Jones fracture. This type of injury is a fracture on the pinky-toe side of the foot. It is often caused by increased training or running on an uneven surface. In all likelihood, it was suffered while prepping for the drills at the Combine.
The injury means Kool-Aid McKinstry will not participate in those drills over the weekend. However, he will do the drills on his pro day at Alabama. After that is when he will have the surgery to fix the issue. All indications are that he will be ready once training camps start.
Kool-Aid McKinstry: Does This Affect His Draft Stock?
Most mock drafts have Kool-Aid McKinstry going in the first round. He isn’t the top cornerback in the class, but someone at the end of the first round will be very happy to snag the productive corner. In his college career, he has 93 tackles, two sacks, two interceptions, and 23 passes defended. Cornerback is a premium position in the NFL, and teams can always use depth.
It is unlikely this affects his stock in a big way. Foot injuries are no joke, but the type of injury shouldn’t make any team worry. Teams may want to look at how he is training and running, but that is probably it. The only way it hurts him is it squashes any chance of him climbing draft boards. Teams will prefer to go with similar talent but with no injury.
The injury to Kool-Aid McKinstry is something to watch. If it turns into something else, he could fall in the 2024 NFL Draft.
