Earlier last month there was some speculation that the Philadelphia Eagles had plans to release their veteran slot cornerback Avonte Maddox. Before the beginning of the new league year, the Philadelphia Eagles were preparing to drop Maddox. This was due to him being added to the list of players who were to be cut because of potential salary cap issues.
Back to the Pits for the Pittsburgh Steelers
The Pittsburgh Steelers are in a bit of a drought with the slot corner position. They were desperately searching for a slot cornerback hoping to bridge that gap quickly. Furthermore, there was previous speculation that the Philadelphia Eagles CB, Avonte Maddox would be heading over to the Pittsburgh Steelers. He would have been an excellent choice to fill in their open slot. So naturally, however, Maddox will be spending the 2024 season with the Philadelphia Eagles. This is the same city where he has played the entirety of his NFL career since being drafted way back in 2018. If the Steelers are still having trouble acquiring a slot option, they could revisit Chandon Sullivan or Patrick Peterson.
The Philadelphia Eagles Loyalty Lies with Avonte Maddox
Avonte Maddox is sticking with the Philadelphia Eagles after agreeing to a one-year deal. He tested his limits on the open market for a short period however, he ended up right back with the Philadelphia Eagles. Avonte Maddox returned to the Eagles lineup to play the 2023 season’s last three games after undergoing surgery on a torn pectoral muscle in September. His vast list of injuries ultimately limited him to four games last season. This is his golden opportunity to show off his physicality this season with the Philadelphia Eagles after suffering from an assortment of chronic injuries last year.
Although Maddox is one of the top slot cornerbacks in the NFL, he misses far too many games as a result of injury. Philadelphia Eagles fans all around are waiting to see how this season will play out for Maddox. We are tired of seeing him miss out on so many games with injury being the cause. Maddox possesses massive talent, and we appreciate that he doesn’t shy away from the physical aspect of the game. It would be great to see him play in the majority of the Philadelphia Eagles season’s games though.
