Team U.S.A. Dominates Paris 2024
Despite competing with over 9,900 athletes, the United States has emerged as the country leaving the Olympics with the most medals. With Team U.S.A. comprising 592 competitors, America has added 126 more medals (40 Gold, 44 Silver, and 42 Bronze) to its coffers of Olympic medals.
The United States broke its record of medals won in the Olympics this year. Its previous was 121 medals from Rio 2016. 257 out of the 592 athletes that represented the United States are medalists, with over 160 being first-timers.
Swimmer Katie Ledecky became the most decorated female U.S. Olympian with 14 medals, 4 of which she earned in Paris 2024. Torri Huske and Regan Smith took home five medals each in the swimming category, earning them the title of the most decorated contestants in Team U.S.A.
Another Team U.S.A. athlete who left the world astonished by her performance and took home four medals (3 Gold and 1 Silver) is world-class gymnast Simone Biles. Noah Lyles is the first American champion in the 100-metre Olympic event, post-Usain Bolt reign.
United States Makes Two Steals From France In Basketball
France lost the Gold Medal to the United States in the Basketball category, not once but TWICE! The U.S.A. Basketball Women’s team beat France 67-66, winning their eighth consecutive Gold at the Olympic Games. Diana Taurasi made history, winning her sixth Gold medal at the Olympics.
Despite being the shortest in the U.S.A. Basketball Men’s Olympics team at a height of 6’2, Steph Curry showed up in the final match, winning his first Olympic Gold medal. He logged 24 points, five assists, and one rebound in 30 minutes. Team U.S.A. defeated France 98-87, earning its fifth Olympic Gold in succession in the category. Lebron James was declared the M.V.P. of Basketball for Paris 2024.
The C.E.O. of the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee, Sarah Hirshland, appreciated Team U.S.A., acknowledging their years of enduring rigorous training and exceptional sportsmanship exhibited at Paris 2024. The executive ended her statement with a promise to “welcome the world” in the anticipated Los Angeles 2028.
Paris 2024 Ends With A Bang
Paris 2024 kicked off on July 26 and came to a close on August 11. During that period, Paris took advantage of picturesque views of landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower and the Chateau of Versailles.
To round off its recond-breaking Olympics, Paris had a stunt-packed closing ceremony that featured performances from dancers, acrobats like the Golden Voyager, and musicians such as the indie rock band Phoenix, Zaho de Sagazan, and Alain Roche. Over 70,000 people witnessed this epic closing event hosted in Paris, France.
The Olympics closing ceremony was graced with the presence of the French president and first lady, Emmanuel and Brigitte Macron. The president of the International Olympic Committee, Thomas Bach, and the French Olympic organizing committee president, Tony Estanguet, both delivered speeches, acknowledging the records the international event broke and how difficult it was to say goodbye to Paris 2024.
H.E.R. sang the American national anthem in a series of performances to hand over the event’s hosting privileges to the United States. Tom Cruise, renowned for the Mission: Impossible franchise and his other stunt-filled movies, abseiled into the Stade de France. Then, he was tasked with the mission of getting the Olympic flag to the Hollywood sign in Los Angeles, home to the next Olympics in 2028, in a movie montage.
The Red Hot Chili Peppers showed viewers how it’s done in L.A. on Venice Beach. Next, 9-time Grammy Award winner Billie Eilish performed her recent hit song Birds of a Feather alongside her brother Finneas on a stage in L.A. Snoop Dogg rounded up the event in L.A. with a performance of Drop It Like Its Hot, and was joined by Dr. Dre.

However, the black mayor promised that LA 2028 would “really show the diversity and international character” of the city.
