What Is With the New York Giants QB room? An In-Depth Look| May 29
Heading into the 2025 season, the New York Giants’ quarterback room has been shaken up and nobody knows if for better or worse. GM Joe Schoen and HC Brian Daboll assembled a blend of veterans and youthful upside, now with Russell Wilson, Jameis Winston, and rookie Jaxson Dart. With nobody even knowing who’s starting Week 1 let’s go into all the Giants QBs and their cases to start!
1. Russell Wilson – Proven Leader and Starter!
Signed this spring to a one-year deal, Wilson to the Giants arrives after 10 successful seasons in Seattle, two less successful seasons in Denver, and then a decent season in Pittsburgh. With the Steelers, he still showcased his trademark playmaking and clutch resilience at times.
In OTAs, Wilson has demonstrated a command of Daboll’s offense, layering checks, and audibles within the team’s run-pass options. His deep-ball accuracy and red-zone efficiency, hallmarks of his career, are in question at 36 years old. More importantly and what’s not in question, Wilson’s championship pedigree and mentorship acumen are expected to accelerate Jaxson Dart’s learning curve and stabilize a locker room hungry for wins.
2. Jameis Winston – Veteran Backup and Mentor!
Winston, despite his dark past, has become a fan favorite in recent years. Known for his cannon arm, eccentric antics, and fearless downfield aggression, Winston brings 10 seasons of starting experience and under Daboll, Winston’s role will be twofold. Either provide high-quality reps behind Wilson or start and serve as a bridge between the past regime’s West Coast offense and the new Air Raid-influenced scheme.
While turnover issues have been a constant, he led the league in interceptions in 2019. Winston’s skill with big-play concepts and ability to rally teammates are valuable insurance and an argument to have him start Week 1.
3. Jaxson Dart – Rookie Upside and Developmental Project!
With the 25th overall pick in the draft, the Giants traded back to select Dart. He is an athletic, dual-threat prospect out of Ole Miss. Dart’s arm strength, quick release, and mobility mirror Daboll’s ideal QB prototype. In college, he demonstrated poise in the pocket and creativity under duress, posting First-Team All-SEC honors in 2024. Although he arrives as a raw talent lacking NFL-level fundamentals, Dart possesses the mentality to learn and the competitiveness to push Wilson or Winston all the way.
Depth Chart Dynamics and Camp Battle!
This three-man room prioritizes a cannon arm and creativity to escape trouble. Wilson’s Week 1 spot might seem assured, but at best with an expiration date, making every performance a potential last one. That must weigh heavily on his mind.
Winston offers a safety valve, while Dart embodies the Giants’ investment in a sustainable future after their unstable present. Daboll’s challenge is calibrating practice reps to keep Wilson sharp, Winston engaged, and Dart progressing without tipping the delicate veteran-rookie equilibrium and turning the locker room into chaos.
Outlook
The Giants’ revamped quarterback room combines veteran savvy, high-octane arm talent, and roster flexibility but with instability as the cost. The only certainty is that this trio will make for one of the league’s most compelling quarterback narratives. Thanks a bunch for reading!
