New England Patriots-Safety Marcus Epps Agree To 1-Year Deal
The New England Patriots and Safety Marcus Epps agreed on a 1-year deal worth a maximum of $4.4 million on Friday afternoon. His season was cut short after suffering a Torn ACL in September 2024. He had 19 tackles before his season-ending injury. Epps is expected to be cleared for a return to the field before training camp.
The veteran safety began his career with the Minnesota Vikings before spending time with the Philadelphia Eagles and Las Vegas Raiders. Epps has 294 career tackles, 3 interceptions, and 2 forced fumbles. Will Epps remain healthy and contribute to the New England Patriots in 2025?
New England Patriots Offseason Outlook
Head Coach Mike Vrabel has overhauled the team’s roster since being hired. Epps is far from the only defender New England has welcomed this season. They signed Linebacker Harold Landry, Defensive Lineman Milton Williams, and Cornerback Carlton Davis.
New England’s defense struggled last season. They have attempted to rectify it by spending a boatload of money on the unit in free agency. As has been the case with the Patriots in recent years, they have leaned into their defense while allowing their offense to lag. The team’s two big offensive moves were signing Wide Receiver Mack Hollins and re-signing Tight End Austin Hooper. Young Quarterback Drake Maye needs at least one more weapon to help him succeed in his second NFL season.
Final Thoughts
Epps is a shrewd signing for a new-look New England Patriots defense. It is unclear if their massive spending in free agency will lead to improved production on the field. Even though they got better on offense and defense, they are in a very tough AFC.
