Dallas Cowboys Have a Strong Preseason Finale Against the Atlanta Falcons
In what has been a noisy offseason for the Dallas Cowboys, they ended the preseason on a high note at home against the Atlanta Falcons. The team’s offense got off to an especially quick start. The Cowboys scored a touchdown on their first two drives of the game. Quarterback Joe Milton III went 4-of-6 for 60 yards in the first quarter. He also found the end zone once on the ground. Running back Deuce Vaughn had 5 carries for 33 yards in the first quarter. Running Back Jaydon Blue added a rushing touchdown in the first quarter.
The Cowboys began the second quarter with an interception that was nullified with a penalty on Dallas. Atlanta took advantage by making a field goal to trail 14-3 early in the second quarter. Atlanta took advantage of a short field and scored a touchdown late in the second quarter. Kicker Brandon Aubrey knocked in a 64-yard field goal as time expired, and the Cowboys headed into halftime leading 17-10.
Milton III had 92 total yards and a touchdown in the first half, and Vaughn had 41 rushing yards in the half. Can the Dallas Cowboys build on this performance heading into the regular season?
Dallas Cowboys Season Outlook
The Dallas Cowboys have an uncertain outlook heading into the 2025 regular season. The contract saga between Micah Parsons and Owner Jerry Jones has continued with seemingly no end in sight. Parsons is still looking for a contract extension. It remains unclear when this situation will be put to rest. Parsons has requested a trade, and Jones is dug in about the contract he has offered to the star player.
Regardless of whether the Cowboys and Parsons agree on a contract, the Dallas Cowboys will need their offense to carry the load for the team to reach its full potential. Quarterback Dak Prescott was given a new weapon this offseason to help take the unit to the next level. The Cowboys acquired enigmatic Wide Receiver George Pickens from the Pittsburgh Steelers back in May. Pickens and Wide Receiver CeeDee Lamb will create a dynamic duo for Prescott to work with. Dallas must outscore teams to win this season.
Final Thoughts
“America’s Team” will start the regular season in a marquee spot. The Dallas Cowboys will visit the defending champion Philadelphia Eagles on September 4 to kick off the regular season. The biggest story facing the Cowboys until the regular season begins is the Parsons situation being finalized. Parsons is one of the best players in the league. The Dallas Cowboys will not experience any success without him on the field, harassing the opposing quarterback.
