New York Yankees Lose 6-0 To Milwaukee Brewers As Spencer Jones Gets Long-Awaited Call Up
The Yankees are red hot, but have recently been beset by injuries. They faced another team beset by injuries, the Milwaukee Brewers, and they lost 6-0. There were two big stories in this game. First, with Jasson Dominguez getting hurt in the first inning, the Yankees called up ballyhooed prospect Spencer Jones.
The second big story for this game was the fantastic pitching matchup. Max Fried was the starting pitcher for the New York Yankees. Jacob Misiorowski was the starting pitcher for the Milwaukee Brewers. “The Miz,” as he is known, is a powerful and young strikeout pitcher. Jones has struggled with the strikeout while in the minor leagues, so that is a bad combination. How did this ballgame unfold?
Yankees and Milwaukee Brewers Game Summary
The Yankees are red hot and had Fried going for them, but the Brewers are a good team as well. In the second inning, Fried ran into a problem. He gave up a lead-off single and then walked the next two batters. All three of those runs scored. Then, the Brewers scored another run on a single to make the score 4-0.
In the third inning, the pesky Brewers scored another run. That made the score 5-0. The Yanks needed more out of Fried. It became 6-0 Milwaukee in the seventh inning after they scored a run off Kervin Castro, who got called up as well. He made it back to the Major Leagues after about four years.
Spencer Jones Called Up To Yankees
With the injury to Dominguez, the Yankees called up Jones. He is huge and powerful. He is, like Aaron Judge, six feet seven, and had 11 home runs at AAA Scranton Wilkes-Barre, and led all of AAA with 41 runs batted in.
His size and prodigious power have allured Yankee fans since he was drafted. So, this call-up is much-awaited. Jones, however, struggles mightily with making contact, and this year, after making changes to his swing, he struck out 43 times in 81 at-bats. Those numbers are sure to rise in the majors.
Max Fried Awarded Gold Glove
Before the 9-2 victory on Thursday, Fried was awarded the Gold Glove for 2025. He is not only a great pitcher, with a fantastic pick-off move to first base, but he is also a great fielder. This was his fourth Gold Glove. Pitchers need to be able to field their positions. Fried is very much like a fifth infielder when he is on the field.
Last night, he inexplicably ran into problems in the second inning. He allowed a hit to the first batter, and he walked the next two. All three runners scored. Milwaukee eventually scored four runs off him in that inning. He threw 40 pitches in that inning. Aside from that one, he pitched well against the Brewers.
Jacob Misiorowski
Misiorowski pitched well for the Brewers. He has been the talk of the league since he broke into the big leagues last season. He made the All-Star team after making only five starts. On Friday, he threw his fastball 103 miles per hour. The Yankees had no chance in this game. The Brewers are being careful with him.
He pitched six innings, 95 pitches, but he allowed only two hits, walked just two, and struck out 11. That was a new season high for him. It ended up not mattering that they took him out. The Brewers’ bullpen is really good. The way they played last night makes one wonder how they ever lose.
