The Colorado Buffaloes haven’t been on the gridiron since last November. Last season, head coach Deion Sanders put the Buffs back into the national spotlight. Despite a 4-8 record, Coach Prime has transformed CU into one of college football’s most intriguing programs. His most recent addition will create even more hype in 2024. NFL great Warren Sapp is joining Sanders’ staff in Boulder next season.
Colorado Buffaloes: Sapp’s Role
In 2023, Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes captivated college football. Having garnered a reputation as one of the worst teams in the NCAA, athletic director Rick George needed to rectify that. In hiring Sanders, George showed his commitment to turning the program around. Almost instantly, Coach Prime thrusted the Buffs into the limelight. He has done it again this year. By hiring Sapp as a graduate assistant, Sanders brought in an NFL legend who could prove to be the Buffs’ secret weapon next season.
Colorado Buffaloes: How Sapp Fits
As the Buffaloes prepare to return to the Big XII after their nearly 15-year absence, they will lean on a veteran coaching staff. With Arizona State and Utah among the former Pac-12 teams joining them, having a coach of Sapp’s pedigree will be crucial. 2024 won’t be the first time he has been in Boulder.
Prior to CU’s first game last season, he attended a practice and mentored Coach Prime’s team. When the Buffs begin play next season, the NFL-great will work alongside Sanders to build a championship program in Boulder. If he is successful, the Buffs could emerge as a dark horse to contend for the 2024 College Football Playoff.
Colorado Buffaloes: Team Stabilizer
Many of the dynamic players from last season are returning for the Buffaloes in 2024. Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter figure to headline a high-octane offense next season. Furthermore, prized offensive lineman Jordan Seaton will look to shore up an offensive line that allowed a school record 56 sacks last season.
Even though Sapp played on the defensive side of the ball, he can use his experience to help guide Coach Prime’s offense as well. In order for the Buffs to compete at a high level in the Big XII, the offensive line must do a better job of protecting Sanders. When given time in the pocket, Sanders is one of the most efficient quarterbacks in college football.
Colorado Buffaloes: Predicting Sapp’s Impact
Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes seek to make the most of Warren Sapp’s arrival. With a projected 2024 record of 9-3, no team wants to overlook the Buffs next season. Now that Sapp is in town, Sanders and the Buffs have an opportunity to continue elevating the program. Despite the season not starting for over five months, Sapp wants to make the most of his new opportunity now. Given his experience and leadership, big things are on the horizon for Coach Prime and company in 2024.
