The Denver Broncos head into the offseason with many issues to fix. However, the major area of focus should be on the quarterback situation. Head coach Sean Payton knows the importance of the quarterback position. Over his two seasons in Denver, Russell Wilson has yet to play a full season. With the Broncos presumably looking to improve their dire quarterback situation this offseason, University of Oregon prospect Bo Nix should be on their radar.
Bo Nix: A Quarterback Prodigy
The Arkansas-native Bo Nix has football in his blood. His father, Patrick, played quarterback for the Auburn Tigers from 1992-1995. Growing up, Nix would emulate his father and analyze the game of football. When his father starting coaching at Georgia Tech in 2002, he often attended both practices and games. He stood alongside his father on the sideline studying the quarterbacks. From their presence in the pocket to teammate interactions, he absorbed as much football knowledge as he could. Before long, he was playing on his high school varsity team when he was only in eighth grade.
Upholding The Family Legacy
When Bo Nix signed his letter of intent in 2018, he followed in his dad’s footsteps and chose to attend Auburn University. Coincidentally, his first start for the Tigers came in 2019 against the team who helped him resurrect his career: the Oregon Ducks. In his college debut, he led Auburn to a 27-21 comeback victory. He showcased his skills and proved that he was going to be an elite quarterback at the collegiate level. Two years later, he solidified himself as a NFL-caliber quarterback when he transferred to the University of Oregon.
Bo Nix: Flying High With The Ducks
When Bo Nix made the decision to transfer to the University of Oregon in 2021, he was coming off an average third year at Auburn. His stats slightly declined, and it became clear that the move to Eugene would help rejuvenate his career. Not only that, but he had a chance to prove he could succeed in the NFL. Even though his first game with the Ducks was a crushing 49-3 defeat at the hands of Georgia in 2022, head coach Dan Lanning knew Nix would be special. He was right. Over the course of two seasons with the Ducks, the Alabama-native threw for over 8,000 yards and 74 touchdowns. Additionally, he proved to be a weapon in the running game as well. He accounted for 20 rushing touchdowns during his stint with the Ducks. Nix capped off an impressive collegiate career when he led the Ducks to a 45-6 victory over Liberty in the 2024 Vrbo Fiesta Bowl on January 1.
Bo Nix: Bright Future In Denver
If the Denver Broncos want to return to prominence, drafting Bo Nix in 2024 would be a great start. He has all of the intangibles to lead the Broncos to their first playoff appearance since winning Super Bowl 50 in 2016. It has been a never-ending quarterback carousel in Denver since Peyton Manning retired eight years ago. In order for the Broncos to be successful in 2024 and beyond, Bo Nix must be sporting the blue and orange for years to come.
