Iowa State Loses Star Quarterback To The Transfer Portal
Tis the season for the transfer portal! Iowa State quarterback Rocco Becht has informed his coaches of his intention to enter the NCAA transfer portal. The decision makes one of the most productive and winningest returning quarterbacks in the country available for the upcoming season.
Iowa State QB Rocco Becht Hits The Market
Becht’s entry into the portal immediately makes him one of the most sought-after players. He holds the distinction of having the most wins (26) of any projected returning starting quarterback in college football over the past three seasons.
His production numbers are just as impressive. Becht will be among the most statistically accomplished quarterbacks available, with 9,274 career passing yardsโranking second among all returning players. He has also accounted for 83 total touchdowns, including 64 through the air, placing him in the top five of returning quarterbacks in both categories.
His breakout season came in 2024, when he led Iowa State to its first-ever 11-win season. That historic campaign included a trip to the Big 12 Championship game and a victory in the Pop-Tarts Bowl, with Becht throwing for 25 touchdowns. His performance earned him the title of Big 12 Offensive Freshman of the Year in 2023 after he secured the starting job.
Injury History and Potential Destinations
Despite his success, Becht’s 2025 season was hampered by injuries. He recently underwent surgery on his non-throwing shoulder for a torn labrum and also dealt with an AC sprain in his throwing shoulder late in the year.
As a redshirt junior with one year of eligibility remaining, Becht is expected to draw interest from top programs across the country. One widely projected destination is Penn State, where his former head coach, Matt Campbell, recently departed to join the Nittany Lions’ staff. However, sources indicate that Becht will be open to listening to all interested schools before making a final decision. His proven track record and extensive experience make him a prime candidate to lead a Power Five program immediately.
