US Claims 10th Consecutive Presidents Cup

The 2024 Presidents Cup started today.

2024 Presidents Cup recap: The US team won its 10 straight Presidents Cup on Sunday, defeating the International team 18.5 – 11.5. Yet the day still produced some surprises.

Presidents Cup Matches Closer than the Final Score

Despite most of the matches being closely contested, the scoreboard says the US routed the International team at Royal Montreal this weekend. The seven-point win matched the American’s largest margin of victory in the Presidents Cup’s history.

Yet 20 of the 30 matches—including 9 of the 12 Sunday matches—were not decided until the 17th hole or later. The problem for the International team is that the Americans continued to come through in the clutch, winning most of the closely contested matches to claim a runaway victory.

Final Day Drama at the Presidents Cup

After winning six of the eight matches on Saturday, the US team was in firm control of the Presidents Cup. Yet the final day still produced some memorable moments. With US co-captain Kevin Kisner removing his shirt after losing a bet to Max Homa. And an unlikely hero scoring the winning point for the Americans.

Presidents Cup Co-Captain Kisner Shows Skin After Homa Holes Out

During the recent Solheim Cup, two caddies made a bet that if one of their players holed out, they would both remove their shirts. Two holes later, they were bare-chested in the fairway.

Watching from home, US team member Max Homa reacted on social media. Kisner promised to do the same if Homa holed out during the Presidents Cup. It happened on the first hole Sunday. While Kisner didn’t get half-naked during the event, he did remove his shirt during the celebration on Sunday night.

Ryder Cup Captain Scores Winning President’s Cup Point

Keegan Bradley was a strong contender to be a coveted captain’s pick for the 2023 Ryder Cup. He was bitterly disappointed when the selection went to another player. He didn’t appear to have much chance of making this year’s Presidents Cup team.

Yet Bradley caught fire during the Fex Ex Cup Playoffs. Winning the BMW Championship and finishing 21st in the final Fed Ex Cup standings. His strong finish earned him a spot on the team, and US captain Jim Furyk made Keegan a captain’s pick.

With the outcome already decided, the only question was which American would score the winning point to clinch the tournament. It turned out to be Bradley who beat Si Woo Kim 1-up on the 18th hole.

“That was incredible. I was saying all week I didn’t know if I’d ever get to do this again,” Bradley said afterward. “To just play in this tournament and then to win the point, my goodness, the last time I played, I was the point to lose the Ryder Cup. If this is my last round as a player, maybe it is. I’m happy with that.”

Next Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup

Bradley will lead the US team versus Europe in next year’s Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black in New York. The next Presidents Cup will be contested at Medinah Country Club outside Chicago in 2026.
