Rumor: Jason Kelce Named As Perfect Fit For Power 5 Head Coach Position

Jason Kelce, Cincinnati Bearcats

Jason Kelce has taken the media world by storm. The former Philadelphia Eagles center gained popularity thanks to his podcast and his brother dating Taylor Swift. However, he has become a great media personality in his own right. ESPN quickly signed him and was a huge part of the Monday night football broadcast in the City of Brotherly Love. With his popularity, many have started to speculate whether he could get back into football as a coach. One analyst has the perfect fit: his alma mater, the Cincinnati Bearcats.

The Cincinnati Bearcats saw great success under Luke Fickell. It helped them get into a Power 5 conference and gain notoriety in the college football landscape. However, it hasn’t been great since Fickell left to coach the Wisconsin Badgers. Head coach Scott Satterfield went 3-9 in his first year, and there are rumors that players and commits are unhappy.

“Rumors of players being dissatisfied, players de-committing or transferring out is not a strong sign. Satterfield did not have success at his last job with the Louisville Cardinals and it seems to be heading the same way for the Bearcats.”

This is where Jason Kelce comes in. The future Hall-of-Famer would immediately infuse some excitement into the program. We’ve seen what happens when a former player comes into a Power 5 conference. Deion Sanders has been able to land big-name recruits in his two seasons with the Colorado Buffaloes. Kelce’s electric personality and knowledge of the game would be a huge asset to any program.

Luring Him Away From Media

There are a few reasons why this probably won’t happen. The first is that being a great player doesn’t necessarily mean a person will be a great coach. We’ve seen countless legends across all sports try their hand at coaching and fail miserably. Even Sanders has taken his share of criticism for his coaching. The second reason would be Jason Kelce’s role at ESPN. The worldwide leader in sports has him as one of their premiere personalities. He has been featured heavily in the advertising for this NFL season.

Furthermore, his podcast with his brother just signed a lucrative contract. Coaching comes with a lot of pressure. Recruiting is a year-round job, and he would also be responsible for hiring coaches and making in-game decisions. However, we have seen strange things happen. If Jason Kelce gets the itch to get back onto the field, the Cincinnati Bearcats seem to be a perfect fit. It’s something to watch as the college football season progresses.
