Detroit Lions vs Arizona Cardinals: Who’s In Who’s Out

lions cardinals Alex Anzalone

The Lions will travel to Arizona to play the Cardinals in this week three clash. While there are a few significant injuries, both teams remain mostly healthy going into week three. It’s expected that one or two key elements may be missed by both sides on Sunday. With just one day remaining until the game and practice being done for the week, we have a good idea of who will and won’t play on Sunday.

The Lions injury report includes a couple of significant players, but the majority are anticipated to play. Due to a knee issue, guard Graham Glasgow missed practice on Wednesday but returned for practices on Thursday and Friday. Lions coach Dan Campbell stated “He’s Good” in response to a question on Glasgow, therefore it is anticipated that he will play on Sunday.

Rookie cornerback Terrion Arnold is another important player on the injury report. Due to an illness, Arnold missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday. However, he returned on Friday, and he is anticipated to play on Sunday. Linebacker Alex Anzalone was also sidelined till Friday, but his status is still in question. With the concussion that Anzalone is dealing with, it will likely depend on how he progresses through concussion protocol over the next couple of days. While it is hoped he will be available for Sunday, they are ready to go without him.

Both defensive backs Ennis Rakestraw Jr. and Iffy Melifonwu are out for Sunday’s game. Melifonwu has been dealing with an ankle injury since the start of the year, but it appears he will soon be able to play again. Rakestraw Jr. sustained a hamstring strain during last week’s game warm-ups. He has not yet been placed on injured reserve, thus it is unknown how long he will be out for. If Anzalone is unable to go, it might have a significant impact on how well the Lions defense performs, but Jack Campbell and Derrick Barnes must step up if the Lions want to walk out with a win in Arizona.

Arizona Cardinals

Just three players for the Cardinals are listed on the Cardinals injury report, with right tackle Kelvin Beachum being the most crucial. The Cardinals don’t want to play a third-string tackle, since Beachum is Jonah Williams’ backup. Cardinals coach Jonathan Gannon responded with a “we’ll see” when questioned about Beachum’s status after he missed practice on Friday. Murray will likely be under a lot more pressure than normal, especially after seeing what the Lions and Aidan Hutchinson were able to do last week.

Defense lineman Dante Stills and wide receiver Greg Dortch are the two other names on the injury report. Both are anticipated to play on Sunday after practicing every day this week. The offensive line will suffer a devastating blow if Beachum is out, and it might significantly affect the outcome of the game.
