The injury epidemic continued in Major League Baseball with the Washington Nationals placing Starting Pitcher Josiah Gray on the Injured List earlier today. Gray was diagnosed with a right arm/forearm flexor strain retroactive to April 6. He was placed on the IL before tonight’s scheduled start against the San Francisco Giants.
Gray has struggled in two starts this season with an 0-2 record and a 14.04 ERA. He has pitched four and 4.1 innings in each of his respective starts this season.
He joins a star-studded Injured List that includes CY Young Award winners Gerrit Cole, Shane Bieber, and Justin Verlander. Major League Baseball and the Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA) are not in agreement regarding the cause of this rash of injuries.
How long will Gray be sidelined and how will the Washington Nationals fare in his absence?

Gray made his Major League debut in 2021 with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He was acquired by the Washington Nationals at the 2021 MLB Trade Deadline. He was part of the blockbuster trade that saw Max Scherzer and Trea Turner shipped to Los Angeles.
Gray was named an MLB All-Star in 2023 finishing with a record of 8-13 and an ERA of 3.81.
Gray has a career record of 17-27 with an ERA of 4.84.
How Josiah Gray’s Injury Will Impact the Washington Nationals
The Washington Nationals are a rebuilding team that is 4-6 on the young season. Washington is 24th in the league in ERA at 5.08, partly due to a sub-par start to the season for Gray. Gray’s injury will place a larger burden on Starting Pitchers MacKenzie Gore and Patrick Corbin.
Washington’s offense has struggled this season as they are 23rd in runs scored. They have scored three or fewer runs in three of three of their 10 games this year.
Washington continues their West Coast trip tonight against the San Francisco Giants followed by a three-game set against both the Oakland Athletics and Los Angeles Dodgers.
