UFC President Dana White has announced the main event for the December 30 UFC 307 fight night in Salt Lake City via his social media accounts today. The main event would feature the current light heavyweight champion, Alex Pereira, in a title defense fight for the third time in 2024. In his way lies rising Khalil Rountree Jr., a man with five wins in a row, four of which finished via KO.
This UFC 307 will have many more showdowns which will be very attractive and exciting to watch with fans supporting their favorite fighters. Additional fights include José Aldo versus Mario Bautista. The two are also very experienced and aggressive fighters that include immense aggression in their fights. Let’s dive into the story to know about these fights.
Alex Pereira vs. Khalil Rountree Jr.: Aggressive Fighters
The main event is Alex Pereira’s second fight for Octagon in less than four months after his stunning victory at UFC 303 where he TKO’d Jiří Procházka in a title–defense bout. That win was another feather in the cap of Pereira who has had a sensational 2024 making him a star in the UFC. In the first part of the year, Pereira co-headlined UFC 300 put on a brutal knockout show against Jamahal Hill and affirmed his status as the most lethal fighter. Pereira had previously threatened to jump up to the heavyweight division to compete for a third UFC title but he now has a very interesting fight against Khalil Rountree Jr.
Rountree Jr., an eight-year UFC veteran, has never looked better than he does right now. The 34-year-old hailing from Las Vegas has been a true contender in the 205-pound division, the man last year stopping Anthony Smith by knockout in December of 2023. This win gave him his third Performance Bonus in his four fights showing he has now turned into a wiser and more focused fighter. Even after losing a potential title eliminator fight against Jamahal Hill due to the suspension, Rountree Jr. has come back and stands before the door with a golden chance to bag the UFC title.
As seen in the fight between Pereira and Rountree Jr, they both love to knock their opponents out. Combined, both fighters have 18 knockouts and this fight will prove to be an extraordinarily striking affair. Pereira, an average UFC fighter with nine appearances and going the distance just twice, will look to record another knockout, while Rountree Jr. will be a breakthrough in his career until this fight.
Additional High-Stack Showdown in UFC 307
UFC 307 will also include two more captivating bouts that will involve experienced fighters competing with ambitious newcomers. First, ex-featherweight champion José Aldo will face emerging bantamweight contender Mario Bautista at 135 pounds. Mario, who was soundly defeated by Aldo when they last fought in 2015 was signed on Aldo’s return to the Octagon in 2016 after being inactive for nearly two years. On the other hand, Bautista, who has established a seven-fight win streak, expressed his desire to include one of the legends’ names in his record, as he looks forward to a rise in the rankings.
Another match in UFC 307 that will spark interest in the card is the welterweight fight, which will feature Stephen Thompson “Wonderboy” and the up-and-coming talent, Joaquin Buckley. Thompson a 41-year-old knockout artist now plans on applying the lessons learned from his submission defeat to Shavkat Rakhmonov in UFC 296.
Meanwhile, Buckley is riding a four-fight winning streak since dropping down to the welterweight division and has victories over Luque and Ruziboev. The fight against Thompson will be significantly important for both participants – Buckley, as the victory can bring him into a list of the division’s leaders, and Thompson.
