Tampa Bay Buccaneers Explosive Dominating Receiving Stars In Week 4

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receivers helped lead them to victory.

For the past two games, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers offense has faced defensive pressure that has disrupted the flow of the offense. In the last game against the Denver Broncos, the Buccaneers only threw for 132 yards. Baker Mayfield, quarterback for the Bucs, was sacked seven times and hit nine times by the Broncos defense. Chris Godwin, receiver for the Buccaneers, has led the team in receiving for the past three games. Mike Evans, star veteran receiver for the franchise, has not totaled over 100 yards receiving in a game this season in his quest to an 11th 1000-yard season but has two touchdowns.

Going into Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers wanted to get Mike Evans going early in the offense. How would quarterback Baker Mayfield implement Evans when most passes go to Chris Godwin? One would think that if the Buccaneers were to be successful, they would need to use both Evans and Godwin’s weapons to be successful in a win against the Eagles.

Chris Godwin

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers Receiver Chris Godwin was predicted to have a massive season by Offensive Coordinator Liam Coen and Baker Mayfield. Godwin has had 21 receptions, 253 yards, and three touchdowns in the past three games. Godwin has been Mayfield’s go-to guy for the season’s first three games. How would Godwin do against the Eagles’ defense after an unproductive game against the Broncos?

Godwin caught six passes on nine targets for 69 yards with no touchdowns. Godwin provided the yards to drive downfield when needed to set up the Buccaneers for scores. On the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ second drive, Godwin caught a pass off a screen for a gain of 28 yards. Later on that drive, the Buccaneers would score on a pass from Mayfield to Trey Palmer.

Mike Evans

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers star veteran, in his 12th season with the franchise, has become the franchise’s all-time scoring record holder after his five-yard touchdown catch, which earned him 596 points. He is over ex-kicker Martin Gramatica, who is at 592. During the game, Evans caught eight passes on 14 targets for 94 yards. With his receptions, Evans managed to get the Buccaneers six first downs. Evans has had ten straight seasons with over 1,000 yards receiving; so far, he has failed to get over 100 yards in a game.

Evans has his name on many records for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Evans is the franchise’s all-time leader in receptions, receiving yards, and touchdowns. Evans also has 36 games with over 100 yards for the Buccaneers franchise. Evans is tied with Hall of Famer Randy Moss for the second most 1000-yard seasons. Mayfield had this to say about the veteran star receiver according to Scott Smith”

“That’s big-time for Mike. That’s huge. Sometimes you take it for granted the career that Mike has had, and continues to have. He’s a Hall-of-Famer, no doubt. That’s a huge honor for him, and the fact that we get to play with him, it’s pretty special. Don’t take it for granted. That’s why we tried to get him started earlier today, get him going, get one of our best players the ball early on so he catches fire. He did that…special player.”

Final Thoughts

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have a short week to prepare for the Atlanta Falcons on Thursday Night Football. The Buccaneers will have to bring that same energy they had against the Philadelphia Eagles, which resulted in a 33-16 win. Baker Mayfield did throw the ball 47 times, and the run game became absent during the game.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will have to fine-tune the offense because there were mistakes, like off-target passes and drops from receivers. Maybe Calijah Kancey, a defensive lineman for the Bucs, can make it to the Falcons game to apply the defensive pressure needed to win the game.
