With the Pittsburgh Steelers coming up short in 2023, they have now made a coaching change of their own. The Steelers did manage to make a playoff game. They also ended the season with a winning record of 10-7. Under head coach Mike Tomlin, he has now had 17 winning seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Not long after their loss to the Buffalo Bills, Tomlin decided to let go of his former offensive coordinator, Matt Canada. Now comes the former Atlanta Falcons coach Arthur Smith in replacement.

Pittsburgh Steelers Hire Arthur Smith As New OC
Arthur Smith was the former head coach for the Atlanta Falcons. He was with the team starting back in the 2021 season. He had some time as the offensive coordinator for the Tennessee Titans before going to Atlanta. In 2022, the Falcons ranked at the lower end of the league in yardage on offense.
This season the Pittsburgh Steelers never surpassed 400 yards in a game. Now, Smith will get to work with Kenny Pickett and Najee Harris.
Is Arthur Smith A Good Fit With The Pittsburgh Steelers?
Since Arthur Smith has experience as an offensive coordinator, he very possibly could be a good fit. Being that he is taking over one unit with weapons on that side of the ball. In speaking with the media, Arthur Smith believes that the culture the Pittsburgh Steelers have seems to be great. “It’s such a unique opportunity to be able to work for an organization like the Pittsburgh Steelers,” Smith said. “With the history and the culture here, and the opportunity to work with Mike Tomlin, to me it’s a perfect cultural fit.”
Head coach Mike Tomlin wants a guy with experience, and someone to help with a young offense such as the quarterback and wide receivers. The fans of the Pittsburgh Steelers will get a taste of what the new offensive system will look like in 2024 under Arthur Smith. Maybe, he is just the right man to get the Steelers to where they envision being during and in the postseason moving forward.
Mike Tomlin With The Steelers
Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin has been with the organization for 17 years. He is now the longest-active head coach in the NFL. He has led the team to seven AFC North titles, most recently in 2020. Tomlin has compiled a 163-93-2 record during the regular season with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Many people had been speculating about his future with the organization. But, it is apparent that after this new hire, he is there to stay in Pittsburgh for a while. Contract extensions are surely in the works, but for now, he is trying to assemble the right pieces for the 2024 campaign.
