Washington Commanders Re-Sign Defensive Tackle Clelin Ferrell On a 1-Year Deal
The Washington Commanders re-signed Defensive Tackle Clelin Ferrell to a one-year deal Saturday morning. He is coming off a solid 2024 season in Washington. He had 26 tackles, 3.5 sacks, and 1 forced fumble.Â
Ferrell was drafted No. 4 by the Oakland Raiders in the 2019 NFL Draft. He has largely had an underwhelming NFL career. Ferrell has never been able to live up to the lofty expectations that came along with being drafted so high. He has 159 career tackles, 17 sacks, and 4 forced fumbles. Will he be able to contribute to the Washington Commanders in 2025?
Washington Commanders Offseason Outlook
Coming off a 53-23 drubbing in the NFC Championship Game by the Philadelphia Eagles, Washington has upgraded its defense. They signed Defensive End Deatrich Wise Jr., Defensive Tackle Javon Kinlaw, and Cornerback Will Harris. Washington also re-signed Linebacker Bobby Wagner, Cornerback Noah Igbinoghene, and Tight End Zach Ertz.
Washington also made two marquee trades this offseason by acquiring Wide Receiver Deebo Samuel and Offensive Tackle Laremy Tunsil. Following a great playoff run, the Washington Commanders upgraded their roster significantly.
Final Thoughts
Ferrell is another great signing by the organization. They are having an offseason that will be talked about for years. They have gotten much better in all three phases. Even though that is the case, there is no guarantee it will translate to on-field success. The Washington Commanders are trying to win now with Quarterback Jayden Daniels on the second year of his rookie deal.
