Washington Commanders Dominate New York Giants 27-22

The Washington Commanders beat the New Giants at MetLife Stadium Sunday 27-22, extending their NFC East dominance. Coming off a thrilling Week 8 ending, Washington entered Week 9 facing a Giants team looking for a third win and redemption. The Washington Commanders beat the Giants 21-18 in Week 2. The Giants came into Sunday’s game at home trying to end a three-game losing streak, but could not contain Washington Quarterback Jayden Daniels.

Daniels completed 15 passes for 209 yards with a pair of touchdowns. He completed passes to seven different receivers. Receiver Noah Brown led the pack catching five balls for 60 yards. Washington also played Sunday’s game without Running Back Brian Robinson Jr. Robinson had limited practice last week due to a hamstring injury.

Washington Commanders Run Game Doesn’t Skip a Step

Even without their leading rusher, the Washington Commanders were in good hands with Austin Ekeler and Chris Rodriquez Jr.  Both shared the load in carries with 11. Rodriquez finished with 52  yards, Ekeler with 42. Daniels started Week 9 still nursing sore ribs with a warm wrap on the sidelines between possessions for a second week. However, he even added to the run game by rushing for 35 yards.

Commanders Score Early Off Fumble

Thanks to a first-quarter fumble early in the first quarter, the Washington Commanders went three plays, and 31 yards to set up a one-yard pass from  Daniels to Wide Receiver Terry McLaurin for the game’s first points. The Giants responded early in the second quarter, going 16 plays, and 73 yards for Quarterback Daniel Jones to connect with a short right pass to Tight End Chris Manhertz for a two-yard touchdown.

The Commanders on the next possession regained the lead 14-7 with an 11-play 70-yard drive that led to a touchdown by Austin Ekeler. With 11 seconds left in the half, Daniels added to the lead with a 12-play 87-yard drive to set up an 18-yard touchdown pass from Daniels to McLaurin. Washington only had 67 total yards rushing in the first half, a clear sign of missing Robinson. However, Ekeler had a decent half, carrying 10 for 49 yards with one touchdown. McLaurin caught two touchdowns and Daniels threw for 134 yards for two touchdowns.

Giants’ Touchdown Nullified In Third Quarter

The Giants would have had an early third-quarter touchdown but it was taken away due to an offensive pass interference call on Receiver Darius Slayton. As a result, the Giants settled for a field goal narrowing the score to 21-10.  Daniels would get that back with a fourth-quarter touchdown, putting the Giants within a touchdown with nine minutes left in the game.

The Giants scored again with under five minutes left to bring the score 27-22. However, the Washington Commanders’ ball control denied the Giants further possession, leading to a solid, less hectic win. Last week’s win went to the last second. This week’s win was more subtle as both teams stood around waiting for the clock to run out. With the Giants lacking timeouts, the Washington Commanders maintained control, winning with the clock running out. The Commanders face the 6-2 Pittsburgh Steelers for Week 10 at home.

Final Thoughts

Sunday’s win showed what finishing games looked like for the Washington Commanders. They scored every quarter and kept the ball 32 minutes to the Giants’ 28. This has made a difference all season. However, for the fans it’s more than magical it’s presidential. In an off-topic post on X going viral, a user by the username of Burgundy_GT  posted a picture of a ballot where Jayden Daniels was written in for president. It’s not confirmed whether or not it’s real. If so, that’s just a waste of a vote. He’s good, but his career is not going in that direction.
