Titans WR Calvin Ridley’s Return Cut Short by Ankle Injury
The highly anticipated return of Tennessee Titans wide receiver Calvin Ridley came to an abrupt and painful end Sunday against the Houston Texans. After just one play, Ridley was carted off the field with an ankle injury and has been ruled out for the remainder of the game.
The injury occurred on the Titans’ first offensive snap. Quarterback Cam Ward connected with Ridley for a 13-yard gain, but Ridley was brought down and was slow to get up, immediately grabbing at his right ankle.
After being evaluated by trainers on the field, a visibly frustrated Ridley limped to the sideline. He briefly sat in the medical tent before a cart transported him to the locker room, a somber end to a return that was supposed to energize the Titans’ offense.
A Frustrating Setback for Ridley and the Titans
This was Ridley’s first game back after missing the previous three contests with a hamstring injury he sustained on October 12 against Las Vegas. He had been listed as questionable coming into Sunday’s game, but his presence was a clear sign of hope for a team looking for a spark. That hope vanished in an instant.
The timing is particularly cruel for Ridley, the team’s highest-paid player this season. The injury interrupts what was shaping up to be a comeback story. Just before the initial hamstring issue, he had his best performance of the season against Arizona, logging five catches for 131 yards. The team and its fans were eager to see that momentum continue.
For the Titans, losing their top receiving threat so early in a crucial divisional game is a significant blow. The offense, already struggling for consistency, now has to rely on a depleted receiving corps.
What This Means for the Titans’ Offense
Without Ridley, the Titans’ passing attack is left with a significant void. The primary receiving duties now fall to veterans like Van Jefferson and rookies including Chimere Dike and Elic Ayomanor. The challenge became even greater later in the game when Dike also left with a concussion, further thinning the ranks.
The team’s offensive game plan will need to pivot dramatically, likely leaning more heavily on the run game and short, quick passes. The pressure mounts on Ward and the remaining receivers to step up and fill the shoes of a player who was expected to be a cornerstone of their offense.
The full extent of Ridley’s ankle injury is not yet known, but being ruled out for the game is a worrying sign. The team will be announcing further updates as they come, however the hope is not for another long-term absence. For now, the Titans must find a way to move forward without one of their most dynamic playmakers, facing not just the challenge of winning today’s game, but also navigating an uncertain future for their receiving corps.
Update 11/16/25 at 4 p.m. MST
It was made official that Ridley is indeed done for the 2025 NFL season, due to a broken fibula. An injury that took him out in the begining of the game against Houston will now further cloud the remainder of his NFL career.
