Skattebo Sparks Team Bonding in Hilarious Video And Earns Leaguewide Respect
Sometimes the crazy uncle is not funny when he does something wrong. For Cam Skattebo, he does something wrong and he is still pretty darn funny.
The timing of the “Skattebo” impersonation video might not have been ideal. Shortly after a rapid-fire set of Skattebo impressions video made its rounds on the internet last week, the rookie running back coughed up a fumble that was returned for a touchdown and allowed the New Orleans Saints to register their first win of the season in NFL Week Five over his Giants team.
But…The Video is Pretty Darn Funny
The video asks Giants players to “Give us your best Skattebo impression.” The Giants oblige, and here is the set list of the comedy skit:
- First Act: The slow walk peace sign.
- Act Two and Three: The Tongue waving
- Act Four: The “Let’s Go” chant from the crouch position
- Act Five, and the highlight of the show: The Backflip
- Act Six: The “How he shakes his head”
- Act Seven: The “Boom” head down, head butt
- Final Act: The “Screaming”
All of this leads to the conclusion when the star of the show, Skattebo, makes his entry. By this point, it feels like the quickest roast ever of a star football player, and a heck of a lot more entertaining than the Tom Brady Netflix Special.
“I really don’t like this one bit. It’s really mean,” Skattebo says to the camera. “I don’t like people mocking me. It’s not ok.”
Then…. drumroll please….. “I am just kidding.” Skattebo then takes a few impressions from the previous players, tongue out, head shaking, and screaming.
Very Hilarious.
HILARIOUS: #Giants Players giving their impressions of Cam Skattebo

The Video Suggests the Giants are a Fun Team – and They Actually Like Each Other
Think for a second about your team. What would the video look like if someone said to six or seven players, “Do your impression of <fill in name here>.”
Arizona Cardinals fans probably would see impressions of Kyler Murray playing video games and pouting on the bench. You can fill in other players and think about what the video would look like.
Here is the observation: The Giants have a young team that has personality. In college, Skattebo helped build a culture of confidence at Arizona State. Today, that swagger is evident in the way ASU plays, and the results are good. It is his legacy.
Based on the video, he has brought that same swagger to the Giants, and his teammates are feeding the beast and not rolling their eyes like he is the weird uncle they pretend not to know when asked to do an impersonation. You can tell they respect their teammate, and that he has made an impression on them.
Coaches agree with this assessment. Said coach Brian Daboll: “He’s tough as nails. You can use him in a variety of ways. Pass game, he can catch, he can run routes, he can throw the ball, as you’ve seen on one of those, and he’s got very good vision and quick feet. He’s a 220-pound back who runs with power, toughness and has the type of personality that I think (general manager) Joe (Schoen) did a great job of along with the scouts of bringing in guys that have a lot of toughness.”
Skattaboo sees his toughness as a source of pride: “”Physicality is definitely contagious. If someone gets ran over, it hypes the other guys up and it gets them going. I’m going to continue to bring that and hopefully it feeds off on to my teammates.”
Bonding Is Nice – Results on the Field Are Even Better
Funny videos are nice to see. Stories of toughness are great. But in the NFL, all of this is noise if it does not bring results on the field. Individually, Skattebo is showing his worth. He has rushed for 240 yards and two touchdowns, while adding 143 yards on 18 touches through the air. In comparison, Eagles RB Saquon Barkley has 267 rushing yards and 128 yards from passes.
Yes, if you check in a few weeks from now, Barkley’s numbers will likely improve and the gap will become wider. Or, maybe not. Yes, the novelty of the Skattebo antics will wear off on his teammate. Or, maybe not.
If the wins come, or don’t come this season, Skattebo is making an impression in the NFL. Ask yourself, what kind of impact has Ashton Jeanty had on his team and in the NFL? Jeanty was drafted sixth overall in the first round. Skattebo was a third-round pick.
Another sign of respect came against New Orleans. First, Skattebo owned his fumble and did not hide from the adversity. ““I fumbled, he got a good punch on it, I handed them a touchdown. So, just got to be better, hold onto the ball. We preach to take care of the ball and that is all I got to do, that my job,” he told reporters after the game. “He got it out perfectly, he punched the ball on the backside, and I did not hold on tight enough.”
Second, New Orleans LB Demario Davis is seen in a couple spots of the game talking about Skattebo. First, he throws it out there so that he can feel his “little feet” moving, and is like a “bad little kid”…”like a battery” out there… After the game, the video shows Davis tracking down Skattebo with a quick embrace and him saying to him, “I love how you run. I have much respect for you.”
#Saints LB Demario Davis talking about #Giants RB Cam Skattebo on the sideline — and then trash-talking him later on the field — is absolutely hilarious.

Like a little kid, like the little Energizer Bunny, like the weird uncle, however you frame it, Skattebo is a force out there. He is making a difference. He is connecting with his teammates and earning the respect of the league. Will it translate to wins? Maybe, maybe not. But it is sure fun to watch.
