Mason Crosby Puzzled By Bizarre Kicking Situation For Green Bay Packers
The Green Bay Packers’ kicking game has become a source of confusion and frustration for fans, and it seems the franchise’s all-time leading scorer, Mason Crosby, is just as perplexed. Speaking on The Mason Crosby Show for the Wisconsin Sports Radio Network, the former Packers kicker weighed in on the bizarre series of events surrounding current kicker Brandon McManus and his backup, Lucas Havrisik.

Crosby didn’t hold back his confusion over how the team has handled McManus’s recent injury, which led to a chaotic performance in Week 11. After being left off the injury report all week, McManus was surprisingly added the day before the game and ultimately sidelined. His replacement, Lucas Havrisik, struggled mightily, missing three extra-point attempts in the swirling winds at MetLife Stadium.

During his show, Crosby pointed out the strange timeline of McManus’s injury status, which has left many scratching their heads. The veteran kicker appeared to be playing through an injury for several weeks before his sudden deactivation, only to return to full practice just a few days later.
“I’ve heard out in the media space where everyone is kind of trying to tiptoe around, like, wind was there, weather’s bad, but what is going on?” Crosby said. “For me, I’m like, so McManus couldn’t go in the game but he’s OK two or three days later? What is going on up there? In my mind, I’m grasping at straws.”
Crosby’s comments echo the sentiment of a fanbase that has watched the team’s special teams falter since his departure. The situation is made even more puzzling by the fact that Havrisik had performed perfectly in his previous two games, even setting a new franchise record with a 61-yard field goal, ironically breaking a record previously held by Crosby himself.
Ongoing Woes Since Crosby’s Departure
The Packers’ kicking instability is not a new problem. After moving on from Crosby, the team has cycled through multiple kickers, including Anders Carlson, Greg Joseph, and Brayden Narveson, all with limited success. The signing of the experienced Brandon McManus late last season seemed to finally solve the issue, as he converted 95.2% of his field goals.
However, the recent drama has brought those familiar kicking woes back to the forefront. With McManus now practicing fully but Havrisik remaining on the 53-man roster, the team’s direction remains unclear. Crosby’s candid remarks highlight the perplexing nature of the situation, leaving fans to wonder when the Packers will find the stability on special teams that they once took for granted during his long and successful tenure.
