Los Angeles Chargers-Mekhi Becton Agree On 2-Year Deal
The Los Angeles Chargers and Offensive Tackle Mekhi Becton agreed on a 2-year $20 million contract on Friday night. He is coming off the best season of his career with the Super Bowl-winning Philadelphia Eagles. He was the 21st-ranked guard according to PFF. He was also near the top of the league in run blocking.
Becton looked like a bust with the New York Jets when he was drafted No. 11 overall by the team in 2020. He looked a far different player in his lone season with the Philadelphia Eagles. Will Becton be able to continue his upward career trajectory in 2025 with the Los Angeles Chargers?
Los Angeles Chargers Offseason Outlook
The Chargers made the NFL Playoffs and followed it up with a busy offseason. Becton is far from the only piece the team has signed to bolster its offense. They re-signed Wide Receiver Jalen Reagor and Center Bradley Bozeman. Los Angeles also signed Running Back Najee Harris and Wide Receiver Mike Williams.
Becton joins a middling offensive line. They were ranked 18th in the league in 2024 according to Pro Football Network. Los Angeles has upgraded their offensive line dramatically this offseason. That will be welcomed by Quarterback Justin Herbert heading into 2025. Left Tackle Rashawn Slater is one of the best at his position in the game.
Final Thoughts
Becton is a solid signing. He should be commended for improving with the Philadelphia Eagles and parlaying it into a lucrative free-agent contract. Becton will look to be a key contributor to the Los Angeles Chargers as they seek to make the postseason for the second straight season.
