The New York Jets Need To Trade Their Young Talent
The New York Jets had high aspirations for 2025 when they hired Aaron Glenn to be their next head coach, looking to make a serious push for the playoffs. It is safe to say that their 2025 has been an absolute disaster. They remain the only winless team in the NFL, and they manage to look worse every week.
It’s Time To Rebuild… Again
Justin Fields has proven that he isn’t a fit with the Jets, and they need to tear it down and start over. There is no point in trying to plug the holes on this team just to make the playoffs, because this current core will never be good enough to win a championship. If they continue to lose, they’ll most likely end up with the first overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. With some top talent already on the roster, New York could put itself in a really good position come draft time if they decide to sell at the Trade Deadline.
The biggest name in the trade market is going to be Breece Hall. Set to become an unrestricted free agent, it would be extremely smart for the Jets to capitalize on his value, especially with multiple teams in desperate need of a running back. It makes no sense for the Jets to pay Hall in their current position, as they need to fill multiple other gaps on the roster.
In the final year of his contract, Hall could be perfect for a contending team looking to make a run at the Super Bowl. Teams in need of a running back include the Pittsburgh Steelers and Los Angeles Chargers. A realistic return for Hall would probably be an early Day 2 pick, which would be great.
Who Else Could Be On the Move?
The other top name next to Hall on the trade market could be Jermaine Johnson. Once again, with the Jets not in a position to contend, they could get a ton in return for Johnson. He’s just 26 years old and has a club option next season. He’ll be making virtually no money for the rest of the season, but his club option is worth over $13 million next season.
The best fit for Johnson would be the Philadelphia Eagles. Philadelphia has struggled all season when it comes to putting pressure on the quarterback, and Johnson would immediately become one of the best guys in their edge rushing room. Even with the return of Brandon Graham, they are still in need of another pass rusher.
Staying along the Jets’ defensive line is going to be Will McDonald. He is in a similar situation to Johnson and could be one of the best players traded at the deadline. McDonald is another player who could get New York a Day 2 pick in return, allowing them to enter another full-blown rebuild.Â
The Jets can trade all of these players and get good value in return without worrying about them departing in free agency for nothing. If they decide to sell at the deadline, the Jets will be the most active team in the entire league. They have a ton of young talent that contending teams would be interested in.
