Green Bay Packers GM Provides Positive Update On All-Pro Zach Tom’s Injury
Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst has provided an encouraging update on right tackle Zach Tom’s recovery following offseason knee surgery. Speaking at his pre-draft press conference, Gutekunst confirmed that Tom underwent surgery to repair a torn patellar tendon sustained in Week 15 of the 2025 season but is on track to return for the start of the 2026 campaign.

Zach Tom missed the final three games of the regular season and the Packers’ wild-card playoff game due to the injury. Gutekunst praised Tom’s resilience and determination, noting that the offensive lineman fought hard to stay on the field before ultimately requiring surgery.
“He did [have surgery], and he’s doing well,” Gutekunst said. “Zach’s a good player, and he’s a very experienced player. Fortunately for him, he’ll be ready to roll as we get going. I give him a lot of credit; he fought his tail off to try to finish it out.”
Tom, who signed a four-year, $88 million contract extension last offseason, is expected to participate in training camp later this summer. The extension, which included a record-setting $30.2 million signing bonus for an offensive lineman, underscores Tom’s importance to the Packers’ offensive line.
Confidence in the Offensive Line
Gutekunst also expressed confidence in the depth and talent of the Packers’ offensive line, despite injuries to key players like Tom. He highlighted the contributions of players like Darian Kinnard, who stepped in during Tom’s absence, and emphasized the team’s commitment to maintaining a strong and competitive unit.
“I feel really good about [the offensive line],” Gutekunst said. “We got a couple guys coming off injury. Zach’s coming off an injury. Jacob’s coming off an injury. But I really like our starting five. We’re always going to look to add to the offensive line. There’s only so many big guys in the world that can play at a high level.”
Looking Ahead
With Tom expected to return in time for the 2026 season, the Packers are optimistic about their offensive line’s ability to protect quarterback Jordan Love and anchor the team’s offense. Gutekunst’s update provides reassurance to fans and highlights the team’s proactive approach to addressing injuries and building depth.
As the Packers prepare for the upcoming NFL Draft, the offensive line remains a key area of focus. While Gutekunst expressed confidence in the current roster, he acknowledged the importance of adding quality depth to ensure the team’s long-term success.
