New York Jets Will Shut Down Garrett Wilson For Remainder Of Season
Garrett Wilson, the beacon of hope in an otherwise murky offense, is officially hanging up his cleats for the remainder of the 2025 season.
Head Coach Aaron Glenn confirmed what the tea leaves (and the 3-11 record) were already telling us: there is zero reason to trot a franchise cornerstone out onto the turf for three meaningless games. Wilson, who has been sidelined since early November with a knee sprain, will remain on injured reserve.
Why The Jets Are Playing It Safe
It’s the smart play. When you’re staring down the barrel of a top-five draft pick, you don’t risk the long-term health of your best playmaker just to maybe beat the Saints in Week 16.
“We just want to be smart with him because he’s a key cog of what we’re doing here,” Glenn said to reporters.
This decision protects Wilson for 2026, ensuring he hits the offseason program fully healthy. For a guy who eclipsed 1,000 yards in his first three seasons without breaking a sweat, this year has been a statistical anomaly. He finishes 2025 with just 36 catches for 395 yards and 4 touchdowns. It is a stat line that looks like a typo, but it’s really just a testament to how rough things have been in New York this year.
Looking Ahead To 2026
With Wilson watching from the sidelines, the Jets will get an extended look at the young guns. Expect to see a lot more of Adonai Mitchell and John Metchie as they try to catch passes from Brady Cook.
This is technically an audition for the future, but let’s call it what it really is: survival mode. The organization is already pivoting to the 2026 NFL Draft, where finding a quarterback is likely priority number one.
For Wilson, the early vacation is disappointing, but necessary. He’s already signed his long-term deal. He has nothing left to prove in a lost season. The best thing he can do now is get that knee right, clear his head, and prepare for a year where hopefully, the passes coming his way are a little more catchable, and the games actually matter.
