Philadelphia Eagles Takeaways after Close Battle in Super Bowl Rematch
The Philadelphia Eagles walk away from the Super Bowl Rematch in Arrowhead with a 20-17 win in an ugly defensive battle over the Kansas City Chiefs. The Eagles will take the win, but there are crucial things that the team needs to work on to get back to where they want to be in 2025, like they were in 2024. The Eagles made the plays at the right time when they needed to; people outside of Philly are talking about the Tush Push again being an illegal play, but Philly fans are looking at one man in particular, and that will lead to my first takeaway.
KEVIN PATULLO Has To Be A Better Play Designer
Look, I get it, Eagles Offensive Coordinator Kevin Patullo is still learning the nuances of calling offense in the NFL as he has never done it before in his life. But he has to be better than this. In two weeks, the Eagles’ Pass Offense has been putrid, although they have hit some big plays once in a while when needed. You can’t be serious with this effort after two weeks.
Philadelphia has the talent to do it, so Patullo is going to have to figure it out, as the offensive scheme needs to be more imaginative overall as well, so we will see how the adjustments will be made throughout the week heading into Week 3 against a Rams team that is coming off of scoring 33 on Sunday.
Andrew Mukuba’s Coming Out Party

Mukuba had a day in his second career start for this Philly team. Mukuba had his ups and downs, but ended up with the key interception in this game that led to the game-winning score essentially on the Tush Push from Jalen Hurts.

Along with that interception, he had six tackles, a QB hit, a 0.5 sack, and a PBU as well in this game, as he was all over the field in this game. Replacing CJ Gardner-Johnson was going to be a tall task, but Mukuba has stepped up so far. We will see how he progresses the rest of the way, but things are looking up for him and this team going forward.
Jordan Davis’s Performance
Davis was also a force in this game, doing what he needed to do to help make things easier for guys like Jalen Carter and Jihaad Campbell, and others. He was controlling the point of attack in this game at the Nose Tackle spot. I love his improvement that he has shown this season from last, and I think he’ll get an extension pretty soon if he keeps this up for the remainder of the 2025 season.
Saquon Barkley and Jake Elliott’s Performances
Barkley has to earn everything that he got in this game, as he had 22 carries, 88 yards, and a touchdown in this game. It goes back to the point earlier on how Patullo has to be better, but good job by Barkley in this game, as he was able to have slightly better numbers than his Super Bowl performance last season. That shows his resilience overall.

And Jake Elliott is officially back as “Jake the Make ” a couple more long field goals for him today in clutch situations, including the one to tie it at halftime, was huge for the Eagles’ momentum.
Final Thoughts
A win is a win, but as an Eagles fan, I know that the team needs to improve if they want to be back at the mountain top, especially after what we have seen from the Packers so far and others. We shall see how the improvement is going forward, but I still have faith in Jalen Hurts getting the passing offense going, as well as this defense keeping on making plays like they did today at critical moments, time and time again.
The Chiefs were hungry in this game and gave the Eagles everything they could ask for, but the composure of the Champs struck again, and they were able to walk out 2-0. Philly is going to be a rocking place next week as the Rams come to town, and Total Apex Sports will have that coverage all week long.
