Eagles Excel In Exercising Jordan Davis’ 5th-Year Option
The Philadelphia Eagles agreed to exercise Defensive Tackle Jordan Davis’ 5th-year option. The former Georgia defensive tackle has had an interesting career to this point, to say the least. After being drafted 13th overall in the 2022 NFL Draft, Davis has made subtle improvements throughout his career.
Davis has become a slightly better pass rusher during his time with the Eagles, as that has been his main issue, but the Eagles use him mostly on first and second down to stop the run. So the decision for them to exercise the option is one of those decisions that warranted the wait until the day before the deadline to make it.
Jordan Davis Career Summary
In his career thus far, Davis has had 90 tackles, 3.5 sacks, 6 quarterback hits, and a forced fumble. 2024 was far and away his best season as an Eagle, as Defensive Coordinator Vic Fangio got him in the right role and used him to his best abilities. He is one of those players who will always have the potential to do more than he is currently doing for the Eagles. The only question is, “Is he going to get the snap counts needed to reach his potential?”
GM Howie Roseman, by exercising Davis’s 5th-year option, is continuing to be smart with the cap space and shows faith in him to reach his ceiling as a great player in this Eagles defense for years to come. This is a great decision for the Eagles to get a team-friendly contract from Davis if he wants to stay with Philly going forward.
Final Thoughts
Davis is one of those guys who can be a long-term fit at Defensive Tackle for the Eagles, and I think the front office in Philadelphia does see that potential. The only thing that could hold him back in the long term is his ability to be on the field for more snaps if he doesn’t show some more improvement in the pass rush side of things, like Jalen Carter.
