Miami Dolphins Signed Minkah Fitzpatrick to a Revised Contract
The Miami Dolphins revised cornerback Minkah Fitzpatricks contract which adds a $16.435 million signing bonus, a source told Adam Schefter on Sunday. The agreement also saves the Dolphins $11 million against this year’s salary cap space. The Dolphins traded for Fitzpatrick last month in a deal that sent cornerback Jalen Ramsey and tight end Jonnu Smith to the Steelers.
Minkah Fitzpatrick Revised Contract Deal
Fitzpatrick signed a four-year, $73.6 million extension with the Steelers in 2022, which made him the league’s highest-paid safety. Fitzpatrick, 28, still hopes to sign an extension with Miami in the near future. The Miami Dolphins originally drafted Fitzpatrick in the 2018 NFL with the 11th pick but traded him to the Steelers a year later because of a dispute with then-coach Brian Flores over his position and role on the team.
Over six seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers he was named in five Pro Bowls and three All-Pro teams. Fitzpatrick rejoins the Miami Dolphins after the Dolphins losing four of its five starters from a season ago. He participated in all four of the Dolphins’ training camp practices but recently hired agent Drew Rosenhaus to help negotiate a new contract.
In Pittsburgh, Fitzpatrick developed into one of the league’s best safeties, piling up 516 tackles, 45 passes defended and 18 interceptions in 88 games. Last season was one of those five Pro Bowl campaigns as Fitzpatrick tallied 96 tackles and an interception. The question is whether Fitzpatrick can help the Dolphins get over the postseason hump notch their first playoff win since 2000.
Final Thoughts
Can Fitzpatrick’s veteran leadership help ease some of those problems — perceived or real? It seems like that’s what general manager Chris Grier banked on. The Dolphins are coming into the 2025 NFL season with trust issues with between Hill and Tua after Tyreek Hills comments after that last season. The Dolphins are turning to veteran leadership to lead them into the playoffs this season.
