Did Shannon Sharpe’s Sponsors Drop Him?
Shannon Sharpe has been under fire by media and fans since he was named in a lawsuit accusing him of sexual battery and assault. Now it appears sponsors are taking note and dropping him as well as his media brand and podcast, “Nightcap.”
Sharpe has continued uploading his podcast as well as episodes of “Club Shay Shay” according to their regular schedule. However, fans of the show have noticed subtle differences that bring up some concerns for Shannon Sharpe financially. Shannon Sharpe Accused of Sexual Misconduct
A report surfaced on Monday, April 21, that lawyer Tony Buzbee would file a lawsuit on behalf of his client under the pseudonym Jane Doe. The lawsuit presented by Buzbee accused Shannon Sharpe of sexual assault and battery, claiming that Shatpe raped Jane Doe in two separate instances.
Since the lawsuit was made public, Sharpe parted ways with ESPN, resigning from his position on the sports show “First Take” starring Stephen A. Smith, where he would appear every Monday and Tuesday.
Viewers Notice Changes In Nightcap Advertisers
The following Monday, Sharpe would appear with Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson on his podcast “Nightcap,” which the two hosts together. Fans noticed something different as Sharpe had taken down the neon Boost Mobile “Nightcap” sign that was always present behind him. Johnson appeared to keep his sign up but conceal the Boost Mobile logo with a Cincinnati Bengals jersey.
The episodes were also no longer proceeded with ads for Boost Mobile and DraftKings as they had been since the show’s inception. Other graphics and media assets for the show, which featured the Boost Mobile logo, were all also removed. It left no trace of the Boost Mobile brand on the show. Other sponsors like DraftKings and the male enhancement supplement Ro Sparks have also not had a presence in advertising on “Nightcap” or “Club Shay Shay.” In the intro of the show now only appears the logo for Shay Shay Media which features a likeness of Shannon Sharpe’s head.
Sharpe Was Reportedly Close To a $100 Million Deal
Since the allegations against Shannon Sharpe have been made public, it is also been reported that he was in talks for a $100 million deal. The details of which are widely unknown. “Nightcap and “Club Shay Shay” are under contract with Colin Cowherd for “The Volume” but that deal was set to expire. Shannon Sharpe was in negotiations.
