Inside Look: Kansas City Chiefs Week 7 Injury Report for 2025 NFL Season
Simmons’ Mysterious Absence Continues
Josh Simmons will miss his second consecutive day of practice Thursday due to personal reasons, casting doubt on the left tackle’s availability for Sunday’s crucial AFC West matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders.
The Chiefs remain tight-lipped about the specifics surrounding Simmons’ situation. Head coach Andy Reid refused to elaborate during Wednesday’s media session, stating he would not comment on the matter and that General Manager Brett Veach is handling the situation.
Simmons missed last Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions for the same undisclosed personal reasons. His continued absence leaves a significant hole in Kansas City’s offensive line protection for quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
Smith Returns to Practice
Running back Brashard Smith bounced back from an illness that sidelined him Wednesday, returning to full participation in Thursday’s practice. The rookie’s recovery provides a boost to Kansas City’s backfield depth heading into the weekend.
“Brashard is feeling better and was able to get back out there today,” Reid said of Smith’s return to the field.
Full Participation Across the Board
The rest of Kansas City’s injury report painted an encouraging picture Thursday. All other players listed on the report participated fully in practice, including several key contributors dealing with various ailments.
Wide receiver Xavier Worthy continued to work through shoulder and ankle injuries that have not prevented him from practicing. The rookie speedster has been a consistent presence on the injury report but has not missed game time due to these issues.
Veteran receivers Marquise Brown (Achilles) and Nikko Remigio (thumb) also practiced without limitations. Brown’s presence is particularly significant as he works his way back from a preseason injury that delayed his season debut.
Defensive Line Gets Boost
Defensive end Charles Omenihu participated fully despite dealing with an ankle injury, while defensive lineman Jerry Tillery was upgraded from not practicing Wednesday to full participation Thursday with his elbow issue.
The defensive line’s health will be crucial against a Raiders rushing attack that has shown flashes of effectiveness this season.
Raiders Dealing with Key Injuries
Las Vegas faces more significant injury concerns heading into Sunday’s game. Star tight end Brock Bowers remains sidelined with a knee injury that has already cost him two games this season.
Wide receiver Jakobi Meyers, who has been the subject of trade rumors, did not practice Wednesday due to knee and toe injuries. Running back Dylan Laube also missed practice with a hamstring injury suffered in last week’s game against Tennessee.
Looking Ahead to Sunday
The Chiefs’ injury situation appears manageable outside of the Simmons mystery. If the left tackle cannot play, Kansas City will need to adjust its protection schemes against a Raiders pass rush looking to capitalize on any weakness.
With most key players practicing fully, the Chiefs should be close to full strength for their second AFC West division game of the season. The team’s 3-3 record makes every division game crucial as they look to maintain their stranglehold on the AFC West.
Sunday’s noon kickoff at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium will test both teams’ depth and resilience as the season reaches its midpoint.
