2024 Offensive Player of the Year Barkley Could Retire out of Nowhere?
This News is going to cause Eagles fans A LOT of Stress, I’ll admit it stresses me out writing this. But Saquon Barkley admitted that when he retires, it will be out of nowhere, comparing it to Barry Sanders. Barkley was on the Green Light Podcast with Chris Long when this was brought up. Even though I’m stressed out now as a fan, it’s a good, honest reflection from the Eagles’ Superstar Running Back. Here’s the breakdown of the podcast segment.
Saquon’s Response

“I’ll probably be one of those guys that it’ll be out of nowhere. I’ll probably just wake up one day, whether it’s next year or two years or four years, and just be like, ‘Yeah, it’s over,’” Barkley said in response to Long’s question about potentially retiring while still playing at his highest level. This self-reflection case shows good awareness, as we have already seen a retirement from a player still playing at a high level this offseason in Lions center Frank Ragnow.
Barkley also talked about how Barry Sanders’ situation could compare to his situation at the end of the day when talking about this topic. “One of my favorite players of all time, probably my favorite player of all time, is Barry Sanders, so probably similar to that. Maybe one day it’ll be out of nowhere. I’ll probably be ballin’ and just be like, yeah, call it quits,” Barkley said. I’ll admit this is something to keep an eye on over the next couple of seasons to monitor, I’m glad the Green Light Podcast was willing to ask Saquon that question
Final Thoughts
Yes, this talk about Saquon’s potential retirement does cause some concerns over these next few seasons as a fan of the Eagles. But I will say that I will enjoy the ride every step of the way as long as that 26 Jersey is going to have the colors of Midnight Green or Kelly Green. I’m confident he is going down as one of the greatest Eagles running backs when it is all said and done. Total Apex Sports will have more NFL stories throughout the Offseason, as we lead up to the opening kickoff from the Linc on September 4th.
