Arizona Cardinals Select CB Will Johnson In The 2nd Round Of The NFL Draft
Things are looking up for the Arizona Cardinals. They have some solid offensive pieces with Kyler Murray, Trey McBride, and Marvin Harrison Jr. James Connor is one of the most underrated backs in the league. The issue was on defense, but they made strides to fix that unit as well. They signed Josh Sweat to a massive deal and drafted Walter Nolan in the first round last night. They have added to their defense on day two, getting a potential steal in CB Will Johnson.
Arizona Cardinals Select CB Will Johnson
Jonathan Gannon is licking his lips right now. The Arizona Cardinals needed some cornerback help, and Will Johnson has the potential to be a steal. Early in the college football season, he was considered a top ten pick. However, injuries derailed his season, and a knee issue caused him to slide in the draft. Despite only playing in six games, he made an impact. He had two interceptions last year, with both of them being returned for touchdowns.
In the national championship-winning year, Johnson had four interceptions, with one being returned for a touchdown. He has the tall task of shutting down some of the best offenses in the NFC. The Rams, Seahawks, and 49ers all have elite talent at the wide receiver position. Gannon has shown he can do more with less, but now he gets a potential elite corner to deploy on his defense.
Final Thoughts
Will Johnson was one of the names to watch in the second round of the draft. The best news for the Cardinals is that they didn’t have to trade up to get him. They were able to stay put and still get their guy. Will teams regret passing on the former Michigan Wolverine? Johnson will definitely have a chip on his shoulder heading into the league.
