Top 5 Standouts For Philadelphia Eagles In Final Preseason Game
The defending champion Philadelphia Eagles are one of the most stacked teams in the NFL. While in the preseason, they didn’t play a ton of their starters, but they are a team that has a ton of depth pieces. In Week 3, they faced the New York Jets in the preseason and won the game 19-17. Five players stood out the most in that game.
1. The Philadelphia Eagles Still Have a Top Five Kicker
The Philadelphia Eagles are always in a good spot when it comes to making clutch kicks. Especially with Jake Elliot as the kicker. He proved that in this game, as he made four field goals (53, 51, 23, and 45 yards). Scoring 13 of the 19 points for the team definitely makes a player a standout.
2. Montrell Johnson Stands Out At Running Back
The Philadelphia Eagles’ run game was mainly lackluster. The one player who impressed in this game was Montrell Johnson. Statistically, he had a great game with 15 carries for 57 yards and an impressive 15-yard rushing touchdown. This performance made the decisions at running back much tougher as a result.
3. McCord Was Mediocre In This Game
Kyle McCord played every single snap on offense as the starting quarterback. Tanner McKee has a finger/hand injury and could not play, so this was an opportunity for him to stand out, and he did. In all the wrong ways. His stats were 15-of-35 completions for 136 yards and a terribly thrown interception. With a performance like that, it is no wonder the Eagles decided to trade for Sam Howell after this game.
4. Lewis Cine Is Still In The NFL?
Before this game began, many fans forgot that Lewis Cine was still in the NFL. The former 1st round pick has been a complete disappointment in the NFL, but in this preseason game, he looked good. Especially when he made an interception, it reminded many of his days at Georgia. While he did stand out, he unfortunately did not make the roster and has been released.
5. Parry Nickerson Got Some Revenge
Before Parry Nickerson ever joined the Eagles, he was a New York Jet. In fact, the Jets took during the 6th round of the 2018 NFL Draft. Well, he got some revenge as he made an interception. It came out of nowhere, and even the broadcaster during the game was amazed at the pick. Depending on how things go with his roster spot, at least he got some revenge on the Jets.
Final Thoughts
What a win for the Philadelphia Eagles. It was a messy victory, but they got the win. That is all that matters, as wins are important in the NFL. With that victory, the Philadelphia Eagles’ record is 2-1 for the 2025 NFL preseason. It is going to be super tough for the Eagles to part ways with players, as the Eagles have a ton of depth on their roster.
