49ers Place Isaiah Prince on IR as Roster Cuts Begin
The clock is ticking toward Tuesday’s roster deadline, and the San Francisco 49ers are making their first significant moves. In a series of roster adjustments, the team placed Offensive Lineman Isaiah Prince on injured reserve.
Prince, who entered the league as an undrafted free agent out of Ohio State in 2019, has battled through injuries throughout his NFL career. The 26-year-old lineman was competing for a backup role on the offensive line, but his latest setback has forced him to the sidelines for at least four games.Â
Isaiah Prince Is Not the Only Roster CasualtyÂ
The Niners didn’t stop with Prince’s IR placement. Several other players found themselves on the wrong side of roster decisions as the team shapes its final 53-man squad:
Quarterback Departures Create Clarity
- QB Carter Bradley – The undrafted rookie from South Alabama was waived/injured, ending his brief stint in Santa Clara. Bradley showed flashes during training camp, but couldn’t crack a quarterback room that’s become increasingly crowded.
- QB Tanner Mordecai – Another signal-caller hit the waiver wire, as Mordecai’s journey with the 49ers comes to a close. The former SMU quarterback brought mobility and arm talent but struggled with consistency in limited opportunities.
Defensive Line Depth Takes Hit
- DL Jaylon Allen – The young defensive lineman couldn’t find a role in San Francisco’s loaded front seven. Allen’s waiver represents another casualty of the team’s defensive depth.
- DL Shakel Brown – After being signed just weeks ago, Brown’s tenure with the 49ers proved short-lived. The defensive lineman was waived as the team prioritizes proven commodities along the defensive front.
Running Back Shuffle Continues
- RB Ke’Shawn Vaughn – The former Tampa Bay Buccaneer was released after a brief audition with San Francisco. Vaughn’s NFL journey continues as he searches for his next opportunity, having bounced between several organizations since entering the league in 2020.
The deadline to cut the roster down to 53 is Tuesday at 4 p.m.
