New York Mets On Fire Through First Month
The Mets hold a winning record of 9-8. They are just below the Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies in the National League East. One big stat is that the New York Mets have won nine of their last 12 games on the baseball diamond. Last night, the Mets beat the Pittsburgh Pirates by a score of 3-1 at home. They will play their final game against Pittsburgh today at 1:10 pm ET.
Jeff McNeil and Joey Wendle got the bats going with two runs batted in for New York in their win. Pete Alonso added two hits to the mix for the Mets as well. Pitching was key, as they only gave up one earned run to Pittsburgh. Jose Quintana pitched for five innings on Tuesday night.
He gave up four hits in the outing. It helped that he was able to provide four strikeouts during the game. It was a low-scoring affair, but the New York Mets are looking to keep the streak alive as they will get a rest day tomorrow before they meet up with the Dodgers on Friday.
Mets Pitching Moves And Injuries
In the last week, the Mets have had injuries to their bullpen. Tylor Megill was out after the start of the season with a shoulder injury. Recently, the organization brought on veteran Julio Teheran, but his time on the mound against the Braves was short-lived. Michael Tonkin was sent back to his former team, which was set up to bring in Teheran.
The 12-year veteran signed with the New York Mets almost two weeks ago. Their pitching lineup is suffering due to injuries. Now, the team is just trying to make it as long as possible until other starting pitchers are released from the injured list. Starting pitchers have to rest their arms as they go down the stretch later in the season.
Right now, they can only hope to keep guys fresh as things continue. Winning games is a top priority as pitching is the driving force for success on defense. As long as the hitters can produce more runs, throwing on the mound will be less of a concern. However, the New York Mets’ current run is highly impressive to start the 2024 Major League Baseball season.
