New York Giants Sign Former Saints Cornerback to 3-Year Deal

The New York Giants get help in their secondary, signing former New Orleans Saints corner Paulson Adebo to a three-year deal worth $30 million. While everyone waits on the quarterback position with a veteran like Aaron Rodgers or Russell Wilson, the Giants fix one of their big needs on defense. While Dru Phillips was a massive hit for them in the 2024 NFL Draft, the nickel corner position was not the issue last year. Deonte Banks took a massive step back as their starter and their backups, Adoree’ Jackson and Cor’Dale Flott, didn’t step up. Adebo could be the answer to those problems.

Giants Sign Paulson Adebo to 3-Years, $30 Million

According to Ian Rapoport (via NFL Trade Rumors), the former starter for the Saints will get $20 million guaranteed on this deal and will make $12.5 million in 2025. Adebo’s season was shortened in 2024 due to a broken femur. However, he is on a great recovery process during rehab, as it was in Week 7 against the Denver Broncos. The former third round pick in 2021 had 3 interceptions and 10 pass deflections, in less than half the season before he was carted off.

The 6’1″ and 192 pound cornerback in his four seasons was a good boundary corner for New Orleans. In 2023, Adebo had his breakout season with a career high 4 interceptions and 18 pass deflections. The 25-year-old has plenty of experience and can grow even further in New York, as their defense had the second fewest total interceptions on the year with just 5. The Giants get a ball hawk they desperately needed for their defense that was missing in 2024, as they hope Banks returns to form in his third year heading into 2025.

This could affect their draft strategy as well with the third overall pick, as they were in contention to potentially take Travis Hunter, who is viewed as a corner who could play some snaps at receiver. There is a growing belief that they will attack the quarterback position in free agency and then potentially move up to get Cam Ward if the Tennessee Titans choose to pass on taking him with the first overall pick and trade down.
