Report: Milwaukee Bucks Eyeing All-Star Guard From Western Conference Bottom-Dweller
As the Milwaukee Bucks navigate a challenging start to their season, reports have surfaced that the front office is exploring ways to shake up the roster. According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, the Bucks have performed “background due diligence” on Sacramento Kings guard Zach LaVine, signaling potential interest in a trade for the high-scoring two-time All-Star.
Milwaukee Bucks Struggles
The Bucks have stumbled to an 8-10 record and have lost six of their last seven games, putting pressure on the organization to make a move. With superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo recently sidelined by injury, the team’s offensive struggles have been magnified. A player like LaVine could provide a significant scoring boost and a much-needed third option.
Why LaVine Makes Sense for Milwaukee
The Bucks were previously linked to LaVine before the 2025 trade deadline, prior to his move from Chicago to Sacramento. Reigniting that pursuit is logical, as LaVine remains an elite offensive talent. He is currently averaging 20.5 points per game while shooting an efficient 49.8% from the field and 38.6% from three-point range. He demonstrated his scoring prowess against Milwaukee earlier this month, dropping 31 points in a Kings victory.
With the Sacramento Kings off to a poor 5-13 start, the franchise may be looking to reset its roster, making LaVine a potentially attainable target. For a Bucks team in need of more offensive firepower, acquiring a dynamic scorer of LaVine’s caliber could be the jolt they need to get back into contention in the Eastern Conference.
The Challenges of a Potential Deal
Despite the potential benefits, a trade for LaVine presents significant hurdles. First and foremost is his contract. LaVine is earning $47.5 million this season and has a $49 million player option for the 2026-27 season. Absorbing that salary would be a major financial commitment and would require Milwaukee to send out significant contracts to match.
Furthermore, while LaVine is a gifted scorer, his defensive shortcomings are well-documented. For a Bucks team that has struggled on the defensive end, adding another player who is not known for his defensive prowess could create further issues. His playmaking has also dipped this season, with his average of 2.2 assists per game on pace to be a career low.
While HoopsHype’s report cautions that nothing is imminent, the Bucks’ interest indicates a willingness to be aggressive. General manager Jon Horst may feel compelled to act, and trading for Zach LaVine could be the high-risk, high-reward move that defines the remainder of their season.
