Orlando Magic Drafts NBA Legend’s Son with 25th Pick
The Orlando Magic got a pretty good value pick with the 25th selection in Michigan State guard Jase Richardson. Richardson is the son of former NBA legend Jason Richardson, and he has a similar game to his dad. His defense is what is going to drive him in a team that is already a great defensive team with the likes of Jalen Suggs, Paolo Banchero, etc.
Jase is going from a college legend in Tom Izzo to an upcoming riser of a coach in Jahmal Mosley. Jase is going to a team his dad played for for a couple of years in the early 2010s. Here are his stats from last season and how his game should translate to the Magic going forward.
Jase Richardson Drafted by Magic
Richardson averaged 12.1 points per game, 3.3 rebounds per game, and 1.9 assists per game on 49% shooting and 41% from three-point range in 2024-25 for the Spartans. Richardson is going to bring some good shooting and good defense to a Magic team that needs a bit more offensive juice along the way, as they did with the Desmond Bane trade earlier in the offseason. The Magic have an identity, and Richardson should help keep that identity moving forward in the right direction going forward.
Richardson is going to be a solid player early on for the Magic and has the lineage to potentially be a great player in the league for several years if Orlando can develop him the right way. He should be a valuable piece for the 2025-26 season if he gets the minutes needed.
Final Thought
Orlando has already had a great offseason thus far with the Bane trade, but drafting Richardson is going to be a valuable asset for years to come down the road as he’s a unique talent that does have an interesting lineage with his dad being a great player in his own right. Orlando is going to be a strong contender in the East now, especially with the injuries to Tyrese Haliburton and Jayson Tatum. Total Apex Sports has more NBA Draft coverage throughout the site.
