Report: Los Angeles Clippers Interested In Another Aging Superstar
As the NBA trade market begins to heat up, the Los Angeles Clippers have reportedly emerged as a team with interest in veteran shooting guard DeMar DeRozan. The Sacramento Kings, who are off to a disappointing 4-13 start, are expected to be major sellers this season, and DeRozan appears to be their most attractive trade asset.

According to a report from Sam Amick of The Athletic, the Clippers have shown “some interest” in acquiring the six-time All-Star. DeRozan, known for his prolific mid-range scoring and playmaking ability, could provide a significant offensive boost to a Clippers team looking to solidify its championship contention. A move for DeRozan would add another proven scorer to their lineup alongside their current stars.
The Financials of a Potential Deal
What makes DeRozan particularly appealing on the trade market is his manageable contract. He has a partial guarantee for next season, with nearly $10 million of his $25.7 million salary secured, making his deal relatively easy for a contending team to absorb. This financial flexibility is a key factor that distinguishes him from his teammates who are also rumored to be on the trade block.
In contrast, the market for other Kings players like Domantas Sabonis and Zach LaVine appears to be much cooler. Sabonis is owed a combined $94 million over the next two seasons, a hefty price for many teams to take on. LaVine, meanwhile, has a massive $48.9 million player option for the 2026-27 season, and his recent play has reportedly not been strong enough to entice potential suitors. Even Malik Monk’s contract, with a combined $41.7 million over the next two years, could present a challenge in trade discussions.
A Buyer’s Market for Sacramento?
While the Kings are clearly heading toward a rebuild, their ability to get a significant return for their top talent seems limited. ESPN’s Tim Bontemps noted that there is currently “no market” for LaVine and Sabonis that would meet Sacramento’s desired asking price. This leaves DeRozan as the most likely player to be moved.
Interestingly, the report from Amick suggests that fourth-year guard Keon Ellis, who is on an expiring $2.3 million contract, is “widely seen as one of the most coveted Kings players.” This indicates that teams are looking for value and flexibility, which aligns with the Clippers’ potential interest in DeRozan’s expiring deal. As the Kings continue to struggle, the trade rumors surrounding their veteran players will only intensify, with the Clippers positioned as a logical landing spot for DeRozan.
