Celebrity Reveals Knicks Jalen Brunson Broke Her Toe During NBA Playoffs
Martha Stewart has revealed the surprising story behind a recent injury, and the culprit is none other than New York Knicks star Jalen Brunson. During an appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” the lifestyle mogul shared that the point guard accidentally broke her toe while she was sitting courtside at a game.
A Courtside Collision Between Jalen Brunson And Martha Stewart
The incident occurred back in May during a heated playoff game at Madison Square Garden between the Knicks and the Indiana Pacers. Stewart, 84, was enjoying the game from her floor seats when Brunson, hustling for a play, crashed into her. The collision resulted in a fractured big toe for Stewart, an injury she has humorously dubbed the “Brunson Fracture.”
Recounting the story to Fallon, Stewart offered a crucial piece of advice to fellow sports fans. “Never, ever wear open-toed shoes to a game like that when youโre sitting on the floor,” she warned, as a photo of her wearing strappy gold sandals at the game was shown. Ironically, due to the injury, she explained that open-toed shoes are now the only kind she can comfortably wear.
Stewart’s Calm Reaction
Despite the painful encounter, which also saw Brunson land in her lap, Stewart remained remarkably composed. “I said โItโs OK,โ thatโs all I said,” she shared. “And he didnโt know he broke my foot, but he broke my foot.” She also noted a surprising detail about the NBA star in the heat of the moment: his arm was “icy cold” and not sweaty, observing that he was as “cool as a cucumber.”
To make matters worse, the game went into overtime, forcing Stewart to remain in her seat with a throbbing toe. She couldn’t get up to address the injury until the game concluded.
When asked if she followed up with Brunson directly, Stewart revealed with a laugh that she took a different route. “I told his parents,” she said, noting that Brunsonโs father is an assistant coach for the team. While she didn’t get a personal apology from the player at the time, she did walk away with a signed basketball for her grandchild as a souvenir from the eventful night.
