Cade Cunningham Shines in Pistons 100-94 Victory Over Knicks
The Detroit Pistons steal a much-needed game two from the New York Knicks following a marvelous performance from Cade Cunningham.
Cade Cunningham Duels Jalen Brunson
Cunningham scored 33 points and grabbed 12 rebounds on 11-21 shooting in his second postseason game. He got to the line for 12 attempts, making 10 of them.
Dennis Schroder came off the bench for the Pistons and supplied 20 points with three 3’s, including the tie-breaking triple to give Detroit a 3-point lead in the closing seconds of the game. Schroder was acquired by the Pistons during this year’s deadline.
The Pistons held a commanding double-digit lead in game one of this series before collapsing and allowing a 21-0 run before ultimately losing.
Jalen Brunson led the way for New York with 37 points and was the main reason for the Knicks mustering any attempt at a comeback.
Karl-Anthony Towns and OG Anunoby struggled, with both only recording 10 points and not having much of an impact in the second half. Towns and Anunoby both played a great part in the comeback New York made in game one, but couldn’t find the basket for most of this game.
Cunningham bounced back after a shaky postseason debut. He showed a great deal of leadership and was able to take the reins of the offense completely.
Detroit snaps a 15-game postseason losing streak and steals a much-needed victory, tying the series. Detroit will host game three on Thursday.
Final Thoughts
This first-round matchup is just as good as we all thought it would be. Great performances all around, and Detroit was able to settle down and snatch a game-two win. Evening this series was a must. New York is one of the best home teams in the NBA, so to be able to host two games in good shape should give the Pistons even more comfort. Cade Cunningham is looking fluent, and this Pistons offense can stay rolling throughout the game.
