Philadelphia 76ers Stun Washington Wizards in 139-134 Overtime Win
The Philadelphia 76ers were trying to stay undefeated on the season, looking to make it four straight wins as they were in Washington to take on the Wizards. Joel Embiid returned to the floor after missing yesterday’s game against the Orlando Magic.
76ers Complete Another Comeback!
The Sixers just don’t stop fighting. Their win tonight was unbelievable, overcoming a 16-point deficit in the fourth quarter. Looking lifeless through the first three quarters, Philadelphia stormed back in the fourth quarter, 32-16, sending the game to overtime. Quentin Grimes was unbelievable, having just nine points heading into the fourth, and ended the game with 23.
They struggled to stop the Wizards all night, but Adem Bona provided a much-needed spark off the bench. Bona had five blocks in tonight’s game and dominated the paint on defense. He also had a game-leading put-back dunk after Tyrese Maxey couldn’t get a floater to go.
Speaking of Maxey, he had another great game. In 47 minutes, he had 39 points, 10 assists, and 3 rebounds. He has been clutch in every game so far, showing up in the biggest moments. Grimes also had a great game alongside Maxey, making key stops on defense and hitting big-time threes. On the night, he was a +19.
In limited action once again, Embiid continues to look more and more comfortable when he steps onto the court. In 23 minutes tonight, Embiid put up 25 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists.
It’s Time To Buy Back In
For any fans who are still hesitant to buy back in, they continue to show why you buy back in. The 76ers have shown fight in every single game, with a different player coming up clutch when it matters most. Maxey has taken the next step in his game, finally leading the 76ers on his own.
Head Coach Nick Nurse finally has the right pieces to work with. This is the best roster he’s had since he started his tenure with the 76ers, and is still missing a bunch of key pieces. Embiid remains on a minutes restriction, and Paul George and Jared McCain are still set to miss more time.
You’re starting to see how good Nurse’s system can be when the front office gives him the right guys. Most teams would’ve lost this game tonight, but the Sixers were able to overcome a 19-point deficit to improve to 4-0 on the season. They’ll meet the Celtics again on Friday night for an NBA Cup game, after their 117-116 win on opening night.
