The NBA doesn’t mess around when it comes to fighting. They want to make sure the players are safe while also protecting the image of the league. In a recent game between the Utah Jazz and Houston Rockets, there was a skirmish that happened and the league had to step in. The NBA suspended two players for their role in the altercation.

Houston Rockets forward Jabari Smith Jr. and Utah Jazz guard Kris Dunn were suspended. Dunn was given two games, while Smith Jr. was only given one. The tussle happened right as the second quarter began, and the ball was being brought up on the court. The two players got tangled up, and words were exchanged, leading to the altercation.
After the game, Dunn said that they “exchanged a couple of words, a couple pushes, and the next thing you know, we’re ejected.” Games can get heated, and sometimes tempers flare. While punches were thrown, none of them seemed to connect. The league is trying to make sure these types of situations do not become common.
NBA Playoffs Near
Some of the frustrations may be coming from both of the teams struggling this season. The Utah Jazz have been outside the playoff picture for most of the season. However, the Houston Rockets have a shot at the NBA playoffs. They have been on a huge winning streak, and if they can catch the Golden State Warriors, they could nab a play-in spot.
The NBA has no tolerance for this type of behavior. While both players can appeal, they will likely each serve the suspension given to them by the league.
