The Most Foul-Mouthed and Negative MLB Fandoms
The 2026 MLB season is in full swing, and VegasInsider recently updated its data analysis of the most foul-mouthed MLB fandoms. VegasInsider’s staff analyzed over one million comments from Reddit’s subreddits of all 30 fandoms to find out which fanbases are the most polite and the most foul-mouthed.
The research study also uncovered which fandoms are the most positive and the most negative. Read on for the full study.
The Most Foul-Mouthed MLB Fandoms

Rudeness and foul-mouthedness may or may not go hand-in-hand, but the most foul-mouthed fandoms are more likely to use expletives when talking about their favorite teams.
According to VegasInsider, an analysis of 1.264 million comments across the 30 fandoms, spanning from April 2025 to April 2026, revealed that the Athletics led in the most foul-mouthed fandom category. 6.03% of the comments on the Athletics’ subreddit included swear words.
In addition, the Athletics were the most foul-mouthed fandom in the previous analysis in 2025. It is important to note that the Athletics’ fans are likely sick and tired of the team’s on-field performances and off-field ownership frustrations.
The Boston Red Sox followed as the second most foul-mouthed MLB fandom with 5.114% of the comments on the Red Sox’s subreddit including swear words. The Los Angeles Angels trailed in third place with 5.106% of the comments on the Angels’ subreddits incorporating swear words.
The Most Polite MLB Fandoms
Politeness is a stark contrast to the foul-mouthed MLB fandoms, but polite fanbases exist amid MLB’s fan scene. The St. Louis Cardinals led in the most polite fandom category with just 3.13% of the comments on the Cardinals’ subreddits including swear words.
The Baltimore Orioles and the Washington Nationals ranked the second and third most polite fandoms, with just 3.37% of the comments on the Orioles’ subreddits including swear words and only 3.47% of the comments on the Nationals’ subreddits incorporating curse words, respectively.
The Most Negative MLB Fandoms
Aside from the most foul-mouthed and most polite tones, VegasInsider’s staff analyzed the emotional tone of each comment across all of MLB’s subreddits, assessing and categorizing as negative, positive, or neutral.
According to VegasInsider’s analysis of 1.264 million Reddit comments, the Boston Red Sox topped the most negative fandom category with a whopping 27.6% of the comments on the Red Sox’s subreddits having a negative tone.
The Athletics and the New York Yankees trailed in second and third place as the most negative fandoms, respectively. 26.61% of the comments on the Athletics’ subreddits had negative tones, while 26.47% of the comments on the Yankees’ subreddits contained negative sentiment.
The Most Positive MLB Fandoms
Negativity can stem from a wide range of factors, from personal experiences to cognitive biases, but positive fandoms exist for the greater good.
The Colorado Rockies, the St. Louis Cardinals, and the Washington Nationals lead as the top three most positive fandoms with a staggering 46.45% of positive comments on the Nationals’ subreddits, 46.36% of positive comments on the Cardinals’ subreddits, and 45.02% of positive comments on the Nationals’ subreddits.
