Behind Warren Yanks Amid Offensive Slump
Behind Will Warren, the Yankees answered some major questions by scoring some runs. The Yankees benefited from a favorable pitching matchup with youngster Warren pitching against veteran Kyle Hendricks. Warren has pitched better of late and was very strong in his last outing. Behind Warren, the Yankees failed to score and lost 4-0 victory. It was good to see the Yankees score some runs to get behind their pitcher. Warren’s pitches have a lot of movement, but in the past, he has struggled with location. Pitching is all about location, so that is important for the young starting pitcher. Did you think the Yankees would score runs for Warren?

Game Reaction: Behind Warren Yanks’ Don’t Score
The Yankees failed to score in the first six innings. That pushed the Yankees scoreless innings steak to 26 (and counting).
Warren had great stuff. He had eleven strikeouts in the first six innings. He has 89 for the year, far and away the most among rookie pitchers. That said, through the sixth innings the Yankees the Yankees did not get behind him.
Garrit Cole joined the Yankees television broadcast. He is very personable and well-spoken. He could easily be a television broadcaster.
Scott Efross got in the game for the Yankees. He had been injured for the entire season, but he came off the injured list for the Yankees five days ago but has not gotten in a game. It was good to see him tonight. He gives the Yankees some bullpen depth. The Yankees did not score any runs behind him either.
News and Notes
Last night, the Yankees wasted a great pitching performance from Clarke Schmidt. Schmidt pitched his best game of the season, throwing seven two-thirds scoreless innings. At one point, he retired seventeen Angels in a row. However, the Yankees failed to score any runs behind him, so it did not matter how well Schmidt pitched.
The Los Angeles Angels’ starting pitcher, Kyle Hendricks, was a longtime member of the Chicago Cubs. He has not pitched well this season. He pitched well today, and the Angels score more than enough runs behind him.
The Yankees got some bad news yesterday. Jake Cousins, a Yankee reliever and cousin of NFL quarterback Kirk Cousins. Jake Cousins had an earned run average under three for the Yankees last season. Cousins will now have Tommy John surgery and will be sidelined for more than a year. The Yankees could use him as their bullpen is overworked and falling behind.
Scoring Summary
In the second inning, Rengifo singled and O’Hoppe scored. The Angels took a 1-0 lead.
In the third inning, Ward had a two-run single Neto and Schanuel scored. It was 3-0 Angels.
In the seventh inning Schanuel grounded out with the bases loaded Rengifo scored. It was 4-0 Angels, and the lead seemed insurmountable with the Yankees not scoring.
Final Thoughts
It was good for Yankees fans to hear Gerrit Cole talk pitching because he knows a great deal. Plus, the Yankees are in an offensive slump, so it was good to hear a pitcher talk. Current Yankee pitchers, to a man, credit Cole with advising them. This is particularly the case with tonight’s starting pitcher, Will Warren. There is no rest for the weary Yankees, as they are in the middle of sixteen days of games. They are playing a four-game series against the Los Angeles Angels, so they play again tomorrow at 7:05 pm.
