One of the most shocking moves of the NFL offseason was the firing of Mike Vrabel. The Tennessee Titans decided to move to a new era. Vrabel was successful with the Titans, who were often able to do more with less. Once the head coaching hiring cycle began, Vrabel was one of the people many analysts had as a top candidate. However, no one hired him. He bounced around, helping out some programs, but now has found a permanent home. The Cleveland Browns have fired Mike Vrabel as a consultant.
Cleveland Browns Hire Mike Vrabel
#Browns coach Kevin Stefanski and GM Andrew Berry have hired Mike Vrabel to serve as a consultant for the Browns, per me and @TomPelissero. The former #Titans coach and Coach of the Year had been with them in Indy at the Combine and will work them this season. pic.twitter.com/W8N0HQJOLB

Mike Vrabel gets a very generic title from the Cleveland Browns. According to multiple reports, he will be a personnel and coaching consultant. What this likely means is he will go where the need is. It isn’t surprising he signed with the Browns. Many reporters noted that during the NFL Combine, Vrabel was was spotted working with many of the Browns’ scouting personnel.
The Cleveland Browns are getting a high-quality coach in Vrabel. In six seasons with the Titans, he went 54-45 and got the team to the AFC Championship Game in 2019. What was more impressive was his teams were usually not the most talented. His deep playoff run was done with Ryan Tannehill under center. While Derrick Henry covers up a lot of warts, his coaching put the team in a position to win.
What Will The Impact Of Mike Vrabel Be?
This is a home run hire for the Cleveland Browns. Players like playing for Mike Vrabel. He was a former player himself, and current players tend to respect that. The Browns had one of the stingiest defenses in the NFL last year, and the addition of Vrabel to the coaching staff should help them improve even more.
It is surprising Mike Vrabel was not able to find a head coaching position. However, he will be a name that is talked about every head coaching cycle. It would not shock me if, next season, he finds himself as a top candidate yet again.
