The Detroit Lions were preseason Super Bowl contenders. The 3-1 Lions are entering their bye week after taking care of business in week 4. Detroit defeated the Seahawks on Monday Night Football 42-29. Detroit is looking like a powerhouse in the NFC and a legit Super Bowl contender. As a Lions fan, you may be asking yourself “What areas could the Lions improve?” The Raiders may have the answer.
The Lions Could Trade For Raiders Stars
The Detroit Lions have a few major roles to fill to become the favorite to win the Super Bowl. One area that has been a question mark for the team is for a third receiver. The Lions have two of the most exciting young receivers in the league with Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams. St. Brown has proven he is a top 10, if not top 5, receiver in the league. Williams has Tyreek Hill-type speed and is electric every time he touches the ball. Detroit has brought in veteran receivers Tim Patrick and Allen Robinson to try to fill the role of wide receiver No. 3. Kalif Raymond has also been placed in that role.
Now imagine if the Detroit Lions made the call to Las Vegas and rolled the dice on veteran, All-Pro Wide Receiver Davante Adams. Adams is unhappy with his current situation in Vegas and is looking for a way out. Adams is in the third season of his five-year contract with the Raiders. If they traded for Adams, the star receiver would be on the team for the next two years before hitting free agency. With adding Adams, the Lions would have arguably the best receiving core in the entire NFL.
But Wait Lions Fans… There’s More…
Detroit may also have some interest in another Raiders superstar. The defensive end for the Las Vegas Raiders, Maxx Crosby may also be on the team’s radar. Crosby was recently quoted that he would love to play for the Lions. Crosby and Aiden Hutchinson would be the most terrorizing duo since “The Mighty Ducks,” bash brothers Dean Portman and Fulton Reed. But this wouldn’t be a Disney flick about a team finding their way; this would be a reckoning amongst the NFL. Quarterbacks around the league would struggle to get any sleep the night before, knowing they are going to have a long day facing the duo of Hutch and Crosby.
Maxx Crosby would add pressure opposite of Hutchinson, which the Detroit Lions have been searching for since Hutch’s arrival. The veteran presence of Crosby will help not only the defensive line but also the young defensive backs on the Lions. Crosby will also fill in for the injured Marcus Davenport, who recently went on Injured Reserve. The team would have control of Crosby for the next three years if a deal would take place.
Final Thoughts
In one phone call, the Detroit Lions could become the scariest team in football. Acquiring the likes of Davante Adams and Maxx Crosby from the Raiders would fill two significant roles on the Lions roster. General Manager, Brad Holmes came from a place that said “F those picks!” Maybe it is time for Detroit should adopt that mentality at least for this year. These two top players at their respective positions would send Detroit into the stratosphere. It is well known the Detroit Lions have never won a Super Bowl. They have never even been to one. The fans are ready.
